Meira Completes Galatasaray Switch <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Portuguese defender Fernando Meira has completed his move to Turkish side Galatasaray from Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart. The departure of the former club captain had been long expected following his announcement that he was seeking a new challenge elsewhere and the arrival this week of Khalid Boulahrouz from Chelsea. Meira had been linked with both Liverpool and Chelsea, but Turkish giants Galatasaray have clinched his signature on a three year contract Stuttgart manager Horst Heldt has however paid tribute to Meira for the six-and-a-half seasons he has spent at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion. "We thank Fernando Meira for six-and-a-half years in the jersey of VfB and wish him all the best for his future in Turkey." It was Meira who captained the Swabians to the Bundesliga title in 2007.</div>
I like this move. Galatasaray are continuing to add quality central defenders to an already high quality and extremely versatile midfield. Players like Sabri Sarıoğlu for instance are so incredible it is amazing that Galatasaray can still keep a hold of such talents. The biggest problem Galatasaray face are weak goalkeepers and a decent crop of forwards. Well, I suppose they figure the defense and midfield are keys to their Süper Lig success last season.
