<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Netted @ Jul 23 2008, 12:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Doesn't mess with Lebron. Nets are committed to about $36mm in 2010. That's before 2009 rookies and assuming Boone and Sean options are not exercised. Salary cap will be about $64mm. It's tight, but there is room for another player making about $10-12mm. Sure makes things more attractive for Lebron.</div> You bring up some interesting points. If the cap is set at 64 million in the 2010 free agency then the Nets might have some room to take on some contracts that extend past two years and still have enough cap room to sign free agents in 2010 (or at least be a threat to sign free agents to force a sign and trade possibility). Possible committed salaries in the summer of 2010 (not including any possible future picks): 17.5M Carter 8.4M Harris 2.8M Najera 3.3M Yi 2.9M Boone (Qualifying offer) 1M Douglas Roberts 2.4M Lopez 1.4M Anderson Total = 40M So that could give the Nets around 24 million to play with in 2010. I think you suggested the Nets would need around 15 million under the cap to go after a guy like Lebron right? So that could mean they might still be able to take on a contract right now that makes around 9 million or less and not interfere with that goal in 2010. They could also choose to drop Boone and trade Najera freeing up around another 6 million. Instead of going after Smith though, a guy like Nocioni would also work, right? He could start for the Nets for at least the next two years and he wouldn't cut into the Nets 2010 cap space as much as Smith since he would be making 7 million then.

That's why I was never opposed to getting Nocioni. But if we could get Smith I think that's a better deal and makes the team even more attractive to free agents in 2010. Good thing about Nocioni is I think we can dump Hassell on them. Chicago needs KVH contract to clear salary and it works with Hassell. Or if the Nets really want to go crazy they can trade Swift, KVH and Simmons to Chicago for Nocioni and Hughes (Hughes expires in 2010). Chicago saves $4.2mm this season, $10.6mm next season and $28.3mm over the next 4 years. Gives them room to sign Deng and possibly Gordon. And it can be done now if they do 2 simultaneous trades: Swift and KVH for Hughes and Simmons for Nocioni. No need to wait the 60 days with Simmons. That trade adds experience, defense and gives a clearer picture at SF. Harris/Dooling Carter/Hughes/Hayes Nocioni/CDR/Hassell Yi/Najera/Williams Boone/Lopez

I would love to get Josh Smith also.. but how much will he want? And will it hurt our chances at getting a superstar in 2010?

After reading that it is possible and it will NOT hurt our chances at getting a good player in 2010 I say Hell yes.
im sorry bout now i heard that ATL is lookin for a S&T partner for josh smith.... NETTED... u think we might have a shot?!?! its on hoopsworld... i kno the source isnt the greatest http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9603 well it doesnt have the nets as one of the suitors... but maybe thorn and kiki can work some magic to get us smith... they state the lakers to give up lamar odom, and dallas to give up josh howard... hmm i wonder who can we give up that has some value that the hawks would want?!

I would think Swat and Krstic in a S&T would be attractive. Maybe with a pick or two. They really don't have any bad contracts they need to unload so we can't help with that except maybe Claxton. They are going to want young talent and picks. I don't think the Lakers will be a big player because they already have Kobe, Gasol, and soon Bynum pulling in big money. Dallas for Josh Howard would make sense if it wasn't for the fact that Atlanta doesn't want to pay Smith big money, so why would they take on Howard at $10.5mm? Denver could probably pull it off, but they want to get under the luxury tax not go $10+mm over it.

Williams, Krstic, expirings to make it work, 2010 Mavs pick, Warriors pick. Move Carter for picks and expirings. Extend Josh at 13million per. 2010: PG: Harris SG: CDR (I'm still holding to him being a stud in this league) SF: LeBron PF: Smith C: <strike>AMARE STOUDEMIRE </strike> Anderson, Boone, picks heading the bench Maybe we'll suck again next year, and draft a great SG. Or we get Ricky Rubio, and trade Harris for a SG. A boy can dream.

No shit, I was actually thinking about this, like how it could be possible. I see Battie and Cook on the roster, but there's no way Atlanta would take those two. Unless they would take Hedo. Then again, I can't see why Atlanta would take him...or why Orlando would give him up. still, a Dwight-Smith reunion would be pretty sweet and crazy. That'd be a sick defensive tandem.
