SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Oakland Raiders have told running back LaMont Jordan not to show up to training camp, according to a published report Wednesday.

The Sacramento Bee reported the team cannot do that, though, because they have to let Jordan participate, cut or trade him. Jordan's agent, Alvin Keels, said no trade is in place.

Oakland, which starts training camp Thursday at Napa Valley Marriott, has a crowded backfield with first-round pick Darren McFadden and Justin Fargas.

The 29-year-old is due $4.7 million this season and a team could trade for him and agree to take on Jordan's salary or restructure the deal.

Keels can file a grievance to allow Jordan to practice and he's reportedly working to have this resolved in the next 24 hours.

The Raiders let this situation get to this point by not releasing Jordan last November, when he asked to be let go and then going the whole offseason without making a move.

Because of Jordan's salary, teams are reluctant to trade for Jordan, assuming he'll be released. The former University of Maryland standout visited with the Detroit Lions, but nothing materialized from the trip.

Jordan rushed for 549 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games last season.

They told him weeks ago that he could go solicit his own trade. So far, no bites. Time to release him.

The trade possibility was a longshot anyways.
