    Maybe only slightly better. You don't see Yi posting up and doing KG fadeaways as often as you see him dribble once and pass it off to a guard at the top of the key, aka Radmanovic.

In a couple of years, though. Next year I'm gonna guess 6rbs a game. That's not too bad considering his style of play doesn't allow him to go for offensive rebounds.

    20pts a game is too much to expect out of him. Right now he doesn't have a superstar's mentality of taking over a game or any thought of dominating an opponent. He is merely doing his job, rather than attempting to get a raise.</div>
    But in his prime i don't think 20, or something 2 far away from that, is out of the question.
    </div>

    His prime may be sooner than we can expect. It is nearly guaranteed that players out of the Guangdong Tigers (the China team Yi played for) shave off at least 2-3 years off of their true age. They did this for Chen Jianghua (a reserve PG for the CNT) as well yet he is still seen as a young, rising star.
    </div>

    I'm going to skip the Yi actual age BS. The Kid needs more NBA experience. It usually takes 3 years before players start putting up average stats. His physical prime and NBA prime might not correlate.

    If he plays good defense and rebound, it'll keep him in the league. Anything after that is gravy.

    The thing is, Chinese fans don't just want him in this league, they want him to dominate in this league. The want him to be the next Dirk. The want him to be better than Yao. They want him to win a championship. They want to follow his lead.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (AhLian @ Jul 23 2008, 08:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>So... we all know the incredible potential and skill set Yi possesses. However, his stats for the rookie season were not spectacular and I think most fans were slightly disappointed. What do you guys think will be Yi's peak and which player in the NBA right now will most likely serve as an example of where he is headed?

    In my opinion, I think Yi will peak as a:

    Yi is whatever he wants to be. If he only has the motivation and drive to become a 15 ppg and 7 rpg player then that's what he'll be. If he wants to achieve more than he is going to have to work harder, play harder and impose his will on the game a lot more. We'll find out over the next year or two whether he has the drive and determination to become a great player or not. However I just don't understand why people feel the need to put a cap on what he can do. Remember it took Yao 4 years to average over 20 ppg. There was a stage where I wonder if he ever would but he did it. Yi has the skill and potential as I've already explain it another thread. I mean how many players you know that can execute a play as smoothly as this against Lamar Odom?

    [IMG]

    Unfortunately we just don't see enough of this kind of stuff from Yi. He is just going to have to figure out how to use his skills to impact the game. Right now he looks like a young player who is just happy to be in the NBA. One day he is going to have to realize just being in the NBA is not enough. Making a good move or two per game is not enough. He is going to have to do it over and over in a game for his team to win.

    Understand that Yao had an average of 13pts in his first season. Yi had an mere 8pts average. So Yao basically grew by 7pts in a span of four years, this means Yi's 8+7=15pts, exactly the amount I predicted. [IMG]

    Yao scores 22 now. 8+9=22. I win.
