<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Enter Eduardo Najera, the kind of meat-and-potatoes tough guy that Lawrence Frank will instantly love. He's 32 and has had some knee problems, but he was an inexpensive pickup, and even though he theoretically signed a four-year deal, much of the final two years aren't guaranteed — in other words, the Nets can cut him if they find themselves needing more cap space for LeBron.</div>

This sounds great if it's true.
So basically, if we are close in negotiations with our taargeted FA in the summer of 2010, but we still need mor capspace after Simmons (10,5mill), Hassell (4,3 mill), Hayes (2mill), Boone (2mill) and Ager (2mill) already came off the books, we can simply buy out Dooling AND Najera, and we shave off close to another 6 mill.

Sorry if this Najera buyout was already reported, and I was the only one who didn't know about it.
I think this is great news.

I saw that in Hollinger's article too. Not sure how acurate it is. He also says CDR isn't signed and that the Nets are done with their offseason. Thorn and Kiki keep saying they are far from done.

Not sure how accurate it is, either. But, if push comes to shove, any player can be "bought out"

Yes, but only if he accepts the buyout. and the amount of the buyout still counts against the cap...

If only a small portion is guaranteed, we can waive him, and only the guaranteed portion counts against the cap...

So there is a big difference.

He is wrong, just as he is wrong that CDR hasnt signed.

Najera has guaranteed four years at $12 million, something like $3.6, $3.3, $2.9, $2.6. Easy to buyout if needed.

Hayes has one year guaranteed at $1.9 million and team option on second year at $2.2 million.

Dooling has two years guaranteed at $3.3 million and $3.6 million and a small guarantee and team option in the third year, no doubt the guarantee is less than $500,000.

CDR has two years guaranteed at about $440,000 and $650,000 and a third year team option at around $850,000. A good deal for the Nets if he is a steal...equal to first round length if not money.

Exactly the reasons why I didn't believe it either.

2.9 and 2.6 aren't killer figures, you combine that with one of those extra first rounders down the line, you will find a taker to completely wiipe the figures off your books. So what I'm thinking is that there's already a built in buyout figure, ala Dooling, not saying it's 500,000.....but hopefully it's something similar, this is actually smart on the part of Thorn considering the CBA will be up in 2010, cap figures may change drastically. I remember the Kidd Suns and the lock out season. The Suns had cap room and was in line to add Pippen, combined with bringing McDyess back(pre surgeries), lock out over, cap was drastically reduced, could never offer Pippen his contract, McDyess bolted. Thorn has it right in that he's not backing himself into a corner, rather allowing easy outs. Najera gets his cash up front and quite possibly a parting gift, if more cap room is needed, dependent on the new CBA.
