<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>(07-24) 18:15 PDT -- Monta Ellis signed mulityear deal with the Warriors on Thursday, his agent, Jeff Fried, confirmed.

"Despite the tremendous interest from many team throughout this entire process, Monta seems to have a special afffinity with the Bay Area fans," Fried said. "I know the Warriors recevied many calls, but at the end of the day, Monta's preference was to play before the bay area fans."

The signing, which is expected to be in the six-year, $66 million neighborhood, ends a busy day for the Warriors, who also matched the offer sheet for Kelenna Azubuike and signed second-rounder Richard Hendrix.</div>

Yup, but I don't think many Warriors fans will complain. It's all Monta now! Maybe he can buy a house in a safer neighborhood for his brother now so he won't get shot.

I'm actually surprised he came at only 11 mil/year. I'd say his market value was 10-13 million. 11 is reasonable, especially considering Kevin Martin got an 11 mil/year contract just a year ago. I'm surprised Monta didn't demand more on the basis of him being younger, having more potential, and being the new franchise player. Not that it would have been a ton more but IMO 11 mils is reasonable while 12-13 would have been a bit much (though within the realm of possibility).

BTW check out the new Warriors.com intro lol.

So I guess we're about done for the off-season unless some trade comes along?

Well I meant in the sense of the contract being 6 years. If it was 5 it would have been fine for me, thats what he deserves at the moment and then extend it if he fulfills his commitment to the team.

I love contracts that are 3 or 4 years, that way heading down the read you have more flexibility, when opportunity comes to sign another star, etc.

Also about K.Martin, I think he's a better player at the moment, can't compare the two yet. (IMO again)

Monta Ellis is still young, so six years from now, he'll still be young. I am guessing he'd be about 26 or 27.

But I like the signings today: Azubuike, Ellis, Hendrix. I think those three can produce for this squad.

Actually 6 years $66 million sounds fantastic. I think that is way cheaper than Jamison's contract extention...

I agree with Run, with the money they pay others nowadays, 11 mil a year ain't that bad.

Wow. We can all breathe a little easier now. We got our starting point guard (even though I still have my doubts).

It is a lot of money, but Monta may be our best player now since Davis left. Now, we gotta wrap up Andris Biedrins.

Pretty much the expected deal. I'm relieved that the rumors about him possibly going elsewhere were false, even if they were quite unbelievable and far-fetched. Depending on the first year value of this deal, we have about $9 million before this year's luxury tax, or approximately $60-61 million in salary cap for this season (though closer to $51 million due to Foyle's contract being in ink on the books only). This likely means that we won't offer Biedrins more than $9 million starting, or possibly less, but hopefully it will be enough to get him to sign. Also as expected, it means that we won't likely do anything serious in the free agency arena next year in 2009, even though Foyle's contract finally gets off the books. As it stands, we should be about $15-20 million under the cap for 2010.

11 mils per year is pretty reasonable for Monta. And, Monta could have dragged the situation for more money, since we lost Davis. Now, let's lock Biedrins up asap...

Since both Baron and Monta are gonna make about the same for the next 5 years,

What would you prefer, a 5-year contract of Baron Davis from years 29-35.

Or a 6-year contract for Monta from 22-29.

What a nice feeling. So different from when we lost Arenas. This is great news!

I remember watching the rookie-soph game, when Monta had about 8 alley-oops from CP3 in a span of like 5 minutes. Nobody really knew who he was then. But it was like he was walking on air and everyone else was bogged down in a swimming pool -- just pogo-sticking dunks with his head above the rim. He was just SO much better than the other players. Well, people know who he is now. Even so, they don't know the real Monta yet. That haven't seen nothing yet -- the Quickness is here to stay!

ESPN is reporting that it is 67 million, not 66. Great signing nonetheless. Now I just hope we could get Biedrins to stay.

Definitely Monta. Granted, hes still young and we've never seen him get a big contract so we don't know how he'll react, but I just flat out do not trust Baron to keep up his health, conditioning, effort, attitude, etc. Plus he seems to hate every coach hes played for except the older, more established ones who aren't intimidated (Nellie and Paul Silas). Not to mention hes already got a mid-30s body so he could hit a big, abrupt decline at any time during that contract.

Monta has shown flashes of amazing ability the likes of which we've only seen in guys like AI, Arenas, Wade, etc. Hes an extremely efficient player and even has some killer instinct when hes gotten the chance to show it. He doesn't have some of the natural talent that Baron has but he could easily be the better player when both of their careers are over because he plays much more disciplined and works hard on his game, shows improvement in some area every off-season.

Had to get this done. Without Monta, the W's are dead in the water. Remember too that the W's saved huge with Monta on a 2nd round contract for the past three years.

I know that in 2 years Monta will be rising and Baron will be falling.

Hmm, yea. I totally understand that, especially consider Baron seems to be a tad overweight and has had injury problems, so I can see it being worrisome about him after a few years.

I haven't seen Monta enough to know if he is worth 11 mill per year. However Baron has that superstar quality.

From my perspective I'd imagine that Baron would give the Warriors a better shot at winning in years 1,2,3 and less in 4,5. And from that point always Monta. However then again Baron has been a guy who takes too many shots, and would that hamper Bellini's (sp?) and Randolph's development?

However I am a bit puzzled by the fact the Warriors signed Maggette to a big and long contract, it seems like they are trying to win now, however as Monta is entering his prime Maggette will be 33. I'm wondering why they didn't go after say Luol Deng with similar money. Who is 5 years younger than Maggette and 1 year older than Monta.
