<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>If you look at the Warriors’ salary situation, it’s easy to see that Andris Biedrins is the one who’s going to get squeezed. Not so fast. A source close to the Warriors’ fifth-year center said European teams are hot and heavy after Biedrins. The Latvia native is drawing strong interest in a couple Russian clubs, according to the source, who added that teams are willing to sign him for three to five years for what amounts to more than $10 million a year. This would be the best news for Biedrins’ in months. The only team with salary cap space that was reportedly interested in him, other than the Warriors, was Philadelphia. But the 76ers spent their cap money on Elton Brand. So leverage of a fat offer from overseas is Biedrins’ best hope of getting the money he wants from the Warriors, or anywhere in the NBA. Biedrins’ camp, which was rumored to have its sight set on the ballpark of Chris Kaman’s contract (five years, $55 million), likely won’t be elated about the offer they’re likely going to get from the Warriors. I would be shocked if it even equaled Corey Maggette’s average of $10 million a year. Just looking at the numbers, I’m thinking six years, $48 million. With no other teams under the cap and able to offer Biedrins that kind of money, save for a sign and trade, it would seem Biedrins’ options are limited. The source said Biedrins’ camp and Golden State have yet to formally meet. But Biedrins figures to be next on the list now that the Warriors are out of salary cap space and star guard Monta Ellis is signed.</div> http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2008/07/24/andris-to-europe/
I call BS on this rumor. I think Mullin would have plenty of suitors in the NBA seeking a sign & trade for Biedrins, who'd be willing to pay him $10M+ for his services.
Man, I don't want to lose Biedrins. If we do, we'll be forced to have Wright/Harrington/Turiaf as our center. Plus Beans could become a very good player in this league.

But after Josh Childress leaving, I am not so sure. Wasn't Childress offered about $10million per season? The dollar is weak my friend, hah so sad. It would be a team like the Warriors that this would happen to (and I guess the Hawks, which it already has).
I heard conflicting reports on Childress' offer (some higher offers that were taken back or some offers only for the MLE), but the one sure offer the Hawks made was $6 million a year, slightly above the MLE. At some point, the Hawks said to just "bring back" another offer from another club, deciding to go the hardball way. Childress felt slighted by this and chose $7 million a year plus extras (taxes paid, etc). Last year Biedrins said he wanted $10 million a year and it was reported that Mullin was "far off" last year. That's why $8 million, which is the number at 6 years, is the guess that people make for Mullin's offer. I recall specifically a little argument over whether or not he was worth $10 million, and I was on the side that he was. I don't think that other clubs wanting him for that price is a rumor, but I don't doubt that Mullin's trying for 6 years, $48 million first and possibly may have his hand forced later.
Beans totally has the upper hand because the Warriors need him to be the starting center for them. Unless they can find a trade for someone else.
Gulp. In hindsight, we should've signed AB a lot earlier. Now, the Warriors may not be able to afford him.
Well, Mully can go over the cap to match any NBA offer to him, so it's basically one of two options for Beans: overseas or the Warriors. I don't know what the international market is like, but seeing how dedicated Beans has been to the Latvian National Team, I could see him wanting to return home if it made $$ sense. On the other hand, I think he likes the bright lights of CA and something tells me he wants to stay with Monta. Let's hope Mully stops horsing around and gives the guy his 10 mils.

No way the W's lose him to Europe or otherwise, unless he gets some stupid offer of $13M+. You just do not lose a young pivot man you've been developing for several years, they are gold, worth more than a swingman. Beans is a great teammate and someone who works hard every second, I cannot stand thinking he goes somewhere else.

AB has probably gotten a few good offers already from Europe, Latvia, or Russia, but I think $10 M gets us into lux tax land because of Foyle's contract and don't think you pay the lux tax on AB because we may still need a point guard. Okafor has a similar game to Beans, and is probably a better offensive player so he could be a plan B, but I rather get Beans first.
If we lose Biedrins to overseas bidders, we'll be a donut squad for the next 6 years I bet. We'll be too good to land top big man prospects in the draft and we'll be too bad to make the playoffs or attract any star big men. Biedrins, league leader in fg% for a reason. He doesn't take many risks and he's very good around the basket using glass and and very nice hookshots. Plus defense and rebounding with good hands is valuable to have.
