QUOTE

Lakers reserve guard Sasha Vujacic, a restricted free agent, is prepared to leave the team and accept an offer from a European team in the next few days if the Lakers don't make him an offer he deems fair, according to a source in the Vujacic camp who spoke only on the condition of anonymity. The source said Vujacic is seeking a multiyear deal from the Lakers averaging about $5 million a year. Vujacic was hoping for a six-year deal, but anticipated it could be a shorter contract.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-sasha2...0,1857797.story Wow... So what do we do. Pay him? Or let him go to Europe? We already lost Ronny, can we afford to lose Sasha as well, a key player off the bench? And if we do lose him, what do we do? Most of the top free agents are already gone, and Posey already signed with the Hornets
I say give him the contract, but have a team option like for the fourth year or something. Not sure if it'll be agreed apon though. We seriously cannot lose Sasha, not now. There's nobody left out there to replace his type of production
Good riddance. Obviously, Sasha and his agent overestimated his value in the league because no other team has given him an offer sheet to sign. I've been saying it all along, Sasha is a dime a dozen player in the league and one-trick pony. I do appreciate the progress he made last season, but his success is a direct result of the system he's playing in and the superstars he's surrounded by. Sasha is not a top free agent and he'll be easy to replace IMO. I wouldn't be surprised to see Coby Karl take on a larger role on the team with Sasha out of the picture. He's killed it in the summer league and has the outside touch to stretch a defense. Once Karl gets more experience and confidence in his game he'll be fine off the bench for us, plus he's a better ball handler then Sasha and more athletic.
I don't care about summer league. That stuff is hogwash You can't honestly expect Coby Karl to step up next year and fill in for Sasha? I'm sorry, but we're competing for a championship next year, and I don't see it happening. Maybe in a couple of seasons, but not next year. Coby has the skills to make it in the league one day, but there's no way he will be able to replace Sasha's production. I don't see him becoming a regular in our rotation any time soon, dude couldn't even get on the court at all last year So far we've lost Ronny, and maybe we'll lose Sasha. Mitch better not be sitting on his ass all day and actually do something

With Bynum back, the SF rotation gets completely altered with Odom-Ariza-Luke leaving Kobe playing 38 to 40 minutes at SG. This would give Sasha 8 MPG roughly? Maybe 12 if PJax plays him minutes at PG? I still maintain Turiaf is a great loss for us in the free agent market. How about bringing back Mo Evans? He's still available. There's plenty of perimeter specialists in Europe right now who could do the job Sasha does from behind the arc with those wide open looks and more consistently.
Yeah good points Shape. I forgot that next year, with a fully healthy roster, even if Sasha does return, he's not going to see that much playing time anyways. We've got the small forward position locked up, and Kobe's obviously going to play a lot of minutes What about Kareem Rush?

I've always liked him, and he can probably come cheap, but he is VERY streaky Mitch better make a move soon though, before all the free agents get picked up

wow, Europe has become a popular option this year, especially for Restricted Free Agents who don't get any offers from their NBA teams. Quite a few Euros have gone back, and Childress.
I don't see why this would be a big loss? Why wouldn't Trevor Ariza be able to just take the SG minutes? Bynum is coming back too, so that's at least 35 minutes gone from last year's playoff rotation you guys had. Coby Karl or Joe Crawford could make the team as a 3rd string PG, making up for him there. I really don't want to see another role player get paid the whole MLE like Pietrus, Kapono, or James Jones because it's making these future One Trick Pony FA's get overpaid.
I don't think we should give Sasha that much just for being able to shoot from long range. Enjoy Europe, Machine.

He's obviously in it for the money, which is kind of worrisome because he never showed up to play until contract year. Kinda like Luke...

He also developed these last few seasons in his defense. I'm just tired of overpaying people like Luke and Radman. I wouldn't mind seeing some tougher players around here. :[
Without him, the Lakers bench won't be as good. Farmar, Ariza, Walton, Radmonovic, Carl, Mbenga, Newble, and Mihm will be pretty bad.
i think mitch will offer him around 3M a year as a last resort... if it doesnt work then good luck sasha

Hopefully we can pick up somebody good to replace him, but yeah. Our bench looks extremely thin. Farmar and Ariza are the only two players I would trust playing big minutes, and Farmar looked like shit for a long stretch last year as well. Walton sucks. Radman is inconsistent. Carl hasn't proven anything, neither has Mbenga. Newble probably won't be back, he sucks anyways. And Mihm is done. Mitch has to do something...
