<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>ALBANY, N.Y. -- Brandon Jacobs was asked if contract demands will play a big part in Giants training camp. "With who?" the fourth-year RB replied. "With you." "Oh, I'm fine at playing at what I'm making this year," said Jacobs, who will earn $927,000 in base salary this season in the final year of his roolkie contract. "I don't have a problem at all with going out, playing at my salary and hitting the (free agent) market." Jacobs then made it seem like that scenario is more probable than just possible now because he said he's done talking about a new deal for now. "I have no idea. I'm done (negotiating) now. I'm finished. It's camp time, you know?" he said. "I don't want to be talking about negotiations and talk to my agent back and forth every chance I get. It's camp time. I'm focused." But isn't that what agents are for? Can't his agent, Justin Schulman of Athletes First, worry about numbers while Jacobs focuses on football? "He can't do it if I don't do it. It's that type of thing," said Jacobs, whose contract demands have been snubbed by the Giants partly because he missed five games to injury last year. "Like I said ... a lot of people still want me to prove myself, to prove I can play 16 games. Why sign a deal that's not fair with stuff that's not fair rather than play 16 games and prove myself?"</div> <div align="center">Source: NJ Star-Ledger</div> This is probably the most difficult of the various contract extensions the Giants have faced this offseason. O'Hara, Snee, Burress, Umenyiora, Tuck. Those are players that you want on this team for a long time, that you know are absolutely vital to keep around, and that deserve a raise. Jacobs deserves a raise too, but we've got 4 running backs on this roster (3 of which who are starting quality IMO) and there are legitimate questions about his durability. Not even for this upcoming season, but also you have to wonder how long he can last with his physical style of play. I'm a big fan of Jacobs but I'm still undecided when it comes to this problem.
I agree. RB is a hard position to pay for, based on one year's production. People will say the Tuck situation is similar. But it isn't. Tuck got paid (and needed to be paid). If the Giants/Jacobs are ok with this, this is probably the best move.
