http://njmg.typepad.com/zzone/2008/07/catching-up-on.html I hope not. Despite all these "character upgrades" I still want Swat.
I can see that. The fact he didn't dominate more in summer league wasn't a good sign. If he brought one thing to the table consistantly I don't think they trade him. If he just locked down players consistantly like he did Beasley or grabbed a lot of boards. During summer league practice, when it was reported he took some time off, I knew he would need to have some special games to survive. This team is not going to put up with the lazy immature stuff anymore. Will be a serious message to the new rookies. The team has a log jam upfront and they may feel his value is only going to go down once teams start questioning if the light will ever go on. They saw Marcus' value plummet because of that. I'd send him to the D-League to get a lot of minutes, but maybe they think that will only expose him more and lower his value.
i REALLY hope this is true. getting rid of Sean williams is the only thing left on my offseason wish list. Everything else has come to fruition. We got dooling, we moved RJ for young players and contracts that come off the books. we drafted Lopez(i wanted thomas or lopez) we got rid of marcus williams.... Sean is all thats left that needs to be dealt with. with him gone, you now have ZERO negative influences, and no one in franks dog house. it frees up more minutes for young guys like anderson, boone, lopez, yi...
The most shocking thing is that some of you are shocked by this. Don't tell me that you are also surprised by the "revelation" that Krstic might not be returning.

If they do that I hope they tie Hassell's contract around his neck. Swat + Hassell for Jeff Foster and a future pick would work. We'd actually be about $7mm under the cap next season.

That's the only negative I've heard about him. Seems like a very nice guy.

I can see why they would trade him, but I'm hoping the team holds on to him. I'd hate for the Nets to let him go, and then he becomes the "next big thing" on another team in a couple years. Yes, he doesn't have a position yet, and yes, he's a goofball, but he seems to be getting stronger (solidifying himself at the 4), and his antics seems to be on the funny side (or wrong place, wrong time) and not the cancerous side. He didn't have the greatest, or most consistent summer league, but I saw some offensive moves out there that blew my mind, and the tenacity with which he shut down Beasley was amazing. He's supposedly only been playing basketball since he was 15, and I think with more coaching, he can play a Paul Milsap/Jason Maxiell role for now, and hopefully turn into something much bigger later on.

Other teams and players that could work are: Houston for Bobby Jackson Minny for Collins! Seattle for Donyell Marshall Include Ager forget about the pick and you could possibly get Artest from Sacto, but he doesn't fit the "good character" mantra.

Sean was the singular exception to this. He may develop into a decent player--but if that happens, it will occur right around when his contract is about to expire. I suspect he has decent trade value right now--certainly more than Marcus. They could use him to get rid of a couple of players they don't want. Earlier I proposed moving Sean, Swift, and Hassell for Okafor--I agree that probably isn't the best move, but you might be able to find something similar involving a different player.

He wants too much money and clogs up the front court. I think the team thinks Yi and Lopez are the future 4 & 5. I brought up Josh Smith in another thread because he can play both the 3 & 4 and is worth the money. Next best thing could be losing Hassell and gaining enough money to be a player in 2009 free agent market. Can add one piece before the 2010 summer and be an even more attractive destination. Oh yeah, it's $12.5mm under the cap if we shed Hassell and Swat. Forgot to subtract Marcus. Lots of options at that stage.

The team needs another center, though, and it would be nice if they could open up a roster spot at the same time for Hodge and/or Carroll, who will be inexpensive.

He’s going to have to continue to work and get in game rhythm. Some of these other guys have been working out the whole month. “He’s trying to get it and pushing through fatigue a little bit, trying to improve on some of the things he struggled with last year in terms of consistent intensity every possession, understanding positioning on the defensive end. It’s not about shot blocking but positioning, being at the right place at the right time. He’s making good efforts and good strides and he just has to keep moving in that direction.”</div> Some hints about it.
