I believe so... After we win 2008 - 09 championship, as well as the 2009-10 championship (fingers crossed LOL), i believe the lakers will use that offseason to bolster the lineup even more for the future. -Kobe will most probably have resigned his last contract by that time (hopefully he takes a paycut from 24M to 15M FLAT a year til he retires) -Bynum will get his contract, whatever he wants no doubt (i hope its not the max... something around 13M a year for 5 or 6 years) -Odom will have resigned (for LESS 8M or else he's gone) or would have been traded for someone cheaper but equally good by then (artest, g wallace, any above average SF) -Gasol would still be with the team (if the FO thinks they are still in the hunt for a ring with him around) OR would have been traded for players that the team would need (young guns, better bigs like D12 LOL) -Vlad would have been traded for cap issues -Walton, were stuck with him unless he's traded -Farmar would either be traded (for a very good player) or will have resigned for around 6M a year -Sasha would have gotten his 4M a year or he'd be the mvp in europe at this time LOL Would the Lakers make efforts to sign a big name? ST Bosh/Amare (Amare would be frustrated in phx by this time if he doesnt win anything) for Gasol plus picks Offer a contract to Wade who would learn a lot under Kobe's wing etc. etc Thoughts? i just wanna hear what laker fans think will happen... i'd hate to be one of those teams that doesnt do anything to improve the team that summer LOL
I doubt Kobe plays for 15M; Bynum will take near max, Gasol is making a good chunk of change by then...... Not sure how much cap room you'll have by then...but if you do have some, yeah, the Lakers should be attractive to free agents.

Farmar would take over starting job next year probably. If not, the year after. Kobe will not play for anything lower than $20, maybe 19 million a year. Bynum, out of respect, shouldn't earn higher than Kobe. Gasol should be gone in favor of Amare Stoudemire at the PF. Stoudemire + Bynum = Beast in the paint Why would we go for Wade??? There is no way you can fit Kobe and Wade on any team.

Well 15 mill isn't exactly veterans minimum lol. But yea, I wouldn't expect Kobe to take a paycut. If he does then that would be great for the Lakers, but as per history most players don't walk away from an additional 9 mill per year. Edit: Oh wait: lol. damn. I misread your post.
Even if Kobe does take that huge pay cut and Bynum signs for $13 million a year, I count a salary total of $46 million without knowing how much Gason and Walton are signed for, and without adding in draft picks and any other players or cap holds need to fill out the roster. Especially considering Gasol, I can't see any way that the Lakers could be players in free agency in 2010, wether Kobe goes crazy and decides to take a huge pay cut or not.

We should all look for the things we have in common, like being Lakers fans. At S2, we realize we have some younger guys. If starting a thread like this is a way for a young guy to learn to be a better writer/sportswriter, then it's worth cutting him some slack. There's good feedback in response to his post, like information about how much salaries they have, asking why Kobe would take a pay cut, etc. I'd rather read that kind of stuff than why someone should be banned. There's two ways to look at Kobe's salary situation. Michael Jordan made hundreds of $millions from shoe contracts, and his NBA contract being $10M more or less wasn't about him feeding his family. For him it was about ego to be paid the highest because he was the best. The flipside is if you don't need the money, and you are loyal to the team and fans, and you want to be able to sign top tier players as teammates, you take a lesser salary. Believe it or not, even though Jordan had years he was paid $30M, and Pippen whined for several years about being underpaid, Pip made more in his career than Jordan did (NBA salary).
