<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Hawks didn't waste any time filling the void left by Josh Childress, who signed a three-year deal with a Greek team Wednesday. Journeyman Maurice Evans has agreed to terms with the Hawks on a three-year deal believed to be worth about $7.5 million, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation.Evans was reportedly close to signing a three-year deal with Golden State on Wednesday, one California newspaper reported. He could slide into the sixth-man spot vacated when Childress opted for a deal with Greek power Olympiakos. Evans played the best game of his NBA career against the Hawks in April. He scored a career-high 27 points in a 121-105 win over the Hawks on April 15 at Philips Arena.</div> Source
Sund being Sund. He was right for not overspending for Childress and he is right for not overspending for Smith. You can't let a player dictate how to manage your team or your salary cap. If Childress ever wants to play in the NBA again he will be property of the Hawks and if Smith wants to play in the league next season he's going to either have to sign a fair deal in Atlanta, sign a qualifying offer, or agree to be signed and traded. Mo Evan's is a good option off of the bench. I hope that Sund also looks to bring in Flip Murray for some backcourt help behind Bibby and Joe Johnson. I doubt that he will considering that Acie Law's development is a priority for this team. Either way Sund is putting his stamp on this team and I'm hoping that he is able to trade Josh Smith for some pieces that will help the Hawks both in the short term and long term. Childress has made Rick look bad, but at the end of the day him leaving for Europe is better than them not being able to afford Joe Johnson and Al Horford down the road. Slick Rick will make responsible decisions that is for sure.
