<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Bulls and Luol Deng's representative continue to negotiate and occasionally make progress toward a long-term extension, which is noteworthy considering this: Deng could have been Josh Childress. The former Hawks forward created headlines this week with his pioneering decision to leave the NBA for a three-year, roughly $20 million contract with the Greek club Olympiacos. Sources said Olympiacos team officials first approached Deng through his agent, Jason Levien, to gauge the restricted free agent's interest in leaving the NBA. While no formal offer was made, one source said parameters far more lucrative than Childress' were discussed. Foreign teams are not bound by the NBA collective bargaining agreement's restrictions when a player's contract is up. Levien has a relationship with Olympiacos officials after negotiating a three-year, $5 million contract with former Seattle SuperSonics draft pick Yotam Halperin. Citing Deng's desire to remain in the NBA, Levien declined.</div> Chicago Tribune

Teams can spend as much money as their owners allow.
Damn, all the European clubs are tryin to steal our NBA players! I hope Deng stays, he's definitely a guy I don't wanna see go overseas.

Not all at once, but they will continue to chip off superstars from us one by one.
No offense, but the best competition is in the NBA, I would never leave. Maybe, if I was fresh out of college, but Deng and Childress should stay in the NBA. But, I don't know what'll happen.

You are looking at this from the perspective of a fan, not a person who is being offered many millions more to simply move and play in Europe. I don't know how much you make, but I would head straight for the cash. When the difference in contracts is several millions of dollars, I'll go play basketball anywhere. If the difference in contracts were 5 bucks, I would stay in the NBA. See this? If you happen to be one of the top players in Europe, your options for returning back to the NBA are great as well. If those teams have no salary cap, ask them for a whole bunch more than your current NBA team is offering. Chances are, you are a young player (20-something), and can easily double the salary that you would have made in the next 5-6 years just sitting on the bench somewhere in the NBA behind several superstars.
If Europe offers 10 mill for 3 years and NBA is offering 6 mill for 5 years. I'd probably take the 33 mill over 3 than 35 mill over 5 or 6. Then after 3 years making what I would have in 6, come back and sign with a contender for cheap if you want.

Now, you just need to get your free throw percentage up, and you are on your way.

I'd go to Europe knowing that an "equal" contract between the NBA and Europe would pay ~1.5 times as much overseas.

You don't even need to be 21 to drink there, and the press isn't watching your every move. 1.5 times NBA money seals the deal.
Oh and we haven't even mentioned the ridiculous bonuses that can be put in a Euro contract. Childress gets to collect his salary, and the team pays for his mansion too.
the thing with it now it that the euro is worth more than the dollar, so itll look less for a european teams cap if there was a cap, and also the taxes would play a huge factor.

Hes not that marketable as a 6th man on a mediocre eastern team in the US.
