With the draft, trades, and FA signings, do you guys think we've addressed all of the needs we had in the beginning of the offseason?

If not, what do we still need? More big help? More guard depth? One more trade?

A scorer/slasher off the bench would be nice.

And who do you have in mind for that? Anyone in free agency, or available in trades?

    No, that's filled.

Need a playmaking PG to develop.

Also need someone besides Najera who can guard bigs outside the paint, but that player would have to replace someone currently on the roster, so that might not be the way to go.

Also - any players we still need to get rid of? Any players we should trade?

ex. - Ager, Swift, Hassel Vince, Sean, Boone (since he might be at his highest value)

I think that will come in the draft either in 2009 or 2010. For now I think they are content to have Harris be the young PG, and at 25 that's not such a bad strategy. I think they have enough young guys to develop at different positions for this year. Another PG and a 2nd wing will be future moves.

Who're you thinking of? I'm probably missing someone obvious.

We do need a backup point who can create, I do agree there.

I'm not too sure how much burn he'll get, with so many vets in front of him, but I hope you're right.

There's still a lot of dead weight on the roster - Hassell, Swift, Ager. They need to turn them into something, anything worthwhile - be it a trade exeption or just an empty roster spot.

And Vince still needs to get traded, but I'm willing to let that slide until February.

I think ghoti meant Dooling. I think we could use a big man who is definitely gonna be a legit stud. Because, unless Yi or Brook improve their D and rebounding significantly, they won't be good compliments to each other. If we could move either of those+SWat, Boone, or a pick or something, for a guy who can rebound and defend, like a Dalembert, Biedrins, Okafor, Smith, Kaman, Chandler, Horford, etc., I think we definitely should. I know most of those guys we couldn't get, though.

Swift is almost as good as a TE as he is an expiring contract. The fact the other team has to pick up his actually contract is offset how he can be combined with others in a trade, unlike a TE.

... who is gonna trade a TE for Hassell or Ager? They are worthless at the moment.

Well, that's why I said "or an empty roster spot"....buy them out or something.

The Nets look like a lottery team with no hope of making the playoffs. Therefore, they addressed their biggest offseason need

They're getting there. They've remade the roster into a form that meets Frank's vision . . . whether it works or not is another story.

Just how good and unselfish Vince is will become evident this year. In the past, the defensive strategy agaisnt the nets was simply to double Vince and pack the paint . . . but now they have some outside shooting, they could post up Vince if they want, Yi and Ryan will be left open to hit long jumpers, etc. And let's not even go into the apparent defensive improvement.

I'm convinced that Hodge and Carroll will compete to be the third-string "point." [Vince would probably fill the "point" function when Harris isn't in the game, leaving Carroll or Hodge to fill the SG role]. I think it will be Hodge. Carroll is no better defensively than Marcus was. At worse, they'll buy out Ager or send him plus cash for a second round pick, and let another team cut him.

They still need a third center, however. I have no one in mind, but I think they are looking for a veteran mid-level center that has a decent mid-range jumper. They cannot go into the season with just the injury-prone Boone and the rookie Lopez at that position. They will be doomed.

IMO, we should trade a couple of our bigs(swift, Boone/Sean) along with Ager Hassel for a starting SF

Well, when the offseason first started I did not believe that we would start a retooling system. I thought Jefferson would be traded for someone that could help us win now. But, the fact that the Nets are rebuilding, I have to say they have done very well to rebuild. I believe within 3 years this team could be very competitive.

I don't know . . . you could easily be right, but you could just as easily be wrong. It's easy to denigrate the team because they have no "stars" other than Vince, but they appear to have improved in a number of areas from last year, when they were at least fighting for a playoff spot for most of the season. Obviously, whether the rookies and Yi can contribute, and how much, will go a long way to determining if this will be a successful season.

I think Vince, if healthy, will be a total stud, though.
