<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>So the team is still pursuing moves that could relieve the logjam at power forward, and they are pursuing some extraordinary methods with which to do it. One of them is unlikely of having any success: A week ago, the Nets contacted the Atlanta Hawks in an attempt to get involved in a sign-and-trade sweepstakes for restricted free agent Josh Smith, but according to one NBA general manager, the Nets "don't have the stuff that really fits" to pull off a deal.</div>

Encouraging to see us at least exploring the possibility via sign and trade.

Boone, Sean, Swift and 3 1st rounders

Sign Smith to 6 year $ 65 million deal.

    I wish

But its really no surprise they called, whats the harm in trying.

If we would of drafted Monta Ellis a few years back we could of done a deal easily

yea, but you could plug smith in his lineup and were a playoff team again, I like him at SF.

    PF when Lebron comes over

    hypothetically of course

actually smith would be better suited at the PF... he can guard guys are the 3 or 4... but he did an amazing job on KG during the 7 game series they had vs BOS.

smith can be the pippen when/if LBJ comes here to be our jordan [IMG]

i say that a lot i know... but i think smith would be the perfect compliment to LBJ or to harris and VC now...

When I read the thread title, I thought it was JR Smith.

It would be pretty awesome to acquire a guy like Josh Smith. He's a blocking machine, and his offensive game is improving rapidly. Definitely one of those young guys you want on the team. And he would attract Lebron, too.

How do S&T's work salary matching wise? Do the salaries even have to match? And finally, last question I promise, can you do three team deals with a S&T?

i think with an S&T if both teams are over the cap it has to come with a certain percentage for it to match salary wise...

and yes josh would be a great addition to the nets... CMON THORN and KIKI!!!

If the Nets were to obtain Smith, they would essentially have to give up Yi Jianlian. Because Yi is one of their key young players they are looking forward to developing, Smith's desired playtime will conflict with the comfortability of Yi's, thus, neither is benefitted.

Yi can play the 3 in the offense... and play the 4 on defense... if smith and him were in together...

    harris

    VC

    Smith

    Yi

    Lopez?

it was like when kenyon and KVH where playin together... they would interchange roles dependin if they had the ball or not [IMG] and vs who they played [IMG]

Yes, very encouraging. I know it's extremely unrealistic for us to actually acquire Smith, but it's nice to see that we actually really made an attempt.

Smith is one of my favorite players in the league and I think he is the closest you can get to Kmart when we had him..He would be such an exciting player to have on our team and if we could get it done and somehow wind up pairing him with LeBron and Harris in the long run (while developing Yi and Lopez along with the other youngsters), we could have a very solid team to build on..Like others have mentioned, Josh would make less than VC is making, so if we were to turn around and trade Carter we would still have plenty of cap room to chase LBJ even with Smith in the fold..

His ability to play three positions-some would argue four-on both ends of the court fit into the mold that has eluded to by Thorn and Kiki- high energy players who can defend and play multiple positions providing the ability to mix and match players.. If Yi develops his game as many expect him to and Brook becomes a solid center for us, Smith would be the perfect player to plug in at SF. His ability to block shots and the energy with which he plays the game would certainly be a more than welcome addition to our team. Also, I think Smith would be much more attractive as a wingman to LeBron in 2010 than say Jamal Crawford or whomever the Cavaliers attempt to acquire in the next to years to attempt to appease him. The combination of Harris and Smith, along with the marketing potential of Yi-not to mention his potential as a basketball player- would be a nearly irresistible package for LeBron James in my opinion, as we would have the youth needed to be a contender for years to come..Obviously Smith is and will be a much more attractive player than Carter as he continues to get up there in age and slowly regress in terms of his skill level.

    Harris-Dooling
    James-CDR
    Smith-Anderson
    Yi-Sean
    Brook-Boone

+ draft picks + FA additions..If you assume growth from our young guys that looks like a very nice team that would be feasible money wise and certainly would be competitive and attractive to Lebron in 2010..
