QUOTE

Contrary to the denials that made the rounds Monday, officials from both teams say the Mets have contacted the Red Sox about Manny Ramirez and are interested in pursuing a deal for him if Boston decides to make him available. The Red Sox suspect that GM Omar Minaya wants Ramirez more than Mets ownership does. Regardless, the Mets are reluctant to part with top-prospect talent in exchange for outfielders like Adam Dunn, Raul Ibanez and Randy Winn, but they (rightly) consider Ramirez a far superior hitter to those in that group, and they would discuss players in a Ramirez deal that they would not discuss in others. What remains to be seen is whether a Ramirez deal is too complicated to come together in time for the deadline.
Fernando Martinez Fernando Martinez Fernando Martinez Fernando Martinez Fernando Martinez

the Mets make a lot of sense to me....one of only a few teams that could afford to add his salary....

QUOTE

The Red Sox have been talking to the Phillies and two other teams about a possible trade for embattled superstar Manny Ramirez, people familiar with the talks told SI.com. The Phillies may now be the front-runner for Ramirez, who apparently has indicated a willingness to go to Philadelphia if the two teams can consummate a trade. Red Sox officials identified Philadelphia as a possible landing spot for Ramirez a few days ago, and the Phillies have shown interest. The other teams in the mix for Ramirez aren't known, but it is believed that the Dodgers and Marlins showed some level of interest in the past few days, since Ramirez ignited a public battle with his team. If true, the Marlins' interest would be stunning in that they have a baseball-low $22-million payroll. The Dodgers' interest wouldn't be surprising in that their owner Frank McCourt has collected Red Sox since buying the team. Matt Kemp's name is believed to have come up in talks with the Dodgers.
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/mlb No idea what Philly has for prospects after the Blanton deal. I don't watch much Dodgers baseball so I know that Matt Kemp's a nice prospect but I have no clue what kind of player he is. The Marlins are interesting.

Manny is even one of the few players worse in LF than he is!
I'm against trading Manny. But if Theo is dumb enough to deal him, I'd much rather he try and save face by gathering some decent prospects than accept a Pat Burrell or the like, because our season is pretty much over if we trade Manny, especially for Burrell who hasn't been any kind of consistent on a year-in year-out basis.

That means there are serious reasons they want him gone. They probably won't deal him anyway, but if they do they need a legitimate major league player to replace him.
No way are the Sox the best team, the Angels and Yankees have already seen to that. We need to keep Manny and find another significant piece to bring in by tomorrow as well. The fact that they're looking to move him so actively over petty clubhouse issues just shows that Theo should be scouting director, nothing more. If Burrell is an expiring deal, that option might become a little more enticing though. Only a little.

No Jesus? :{ Manny is probably one of the better LFs in Fenway. You know, when he's not cutting off throws from his center fielder.
To BOS: Bay, J Wilson To FLA: Manny, Grabow To PIT: Hermida, Lowrie, Hunter Jones, Ryan Tucker Some Pittsburgh newspaper says that's the deal as of now. Horrible deal for the Sox in every way, shape, form, and everything else. Ick.
