Ferguson: If Ronaldo Leaves I Will Too

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Sir Alex Ferguson has dropped a bombshell by sensationally revealing that he will quit as manager of Manchester United if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves to join Real Madrid.

It has been the transfer soap opera of the summer, and the most explosive episode so far may have just been aired.

With Man Utd publicly insisting that the Portuguese wizard is staying, Real Madrid quietly confident that they can get their man, and Ronaldo himself still remaining silent, Sir Alex Ferguson has moved to drop an absolute bombshell regarding the issue.

Ferguson, who has won more trophies than any other manager in the history of English football, has threatened to quit Manchester United if Ronaldo is sold.

"If Ronaldo leaves, I'm going too," the Scot is quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Marca.

It is quite an astonishing statement from Fergie, who has been at Man Utd for the last 22 years, winning 10 Premier Leagues, five FA Cups, two Champions Leagues and an Intercontinental Cup, among a plethora of other honours.

Ferguson is well known to being a master when it comes to playing the media, and these comments, if Marca have reported them accurately, may have been intended to pile up the guilt on Ronaldo, and pressure him into staying at Old Trafford.</div>

Wow, ultimatum much? That's the type of shit Ferguson always pulls.

Hmm, Haven't seen a threat of a Ultimatum for a loooong time...makes the situation more exciting...but Ronaldo and Fergie have a great relationship...wonder if he would do the same for Rooney??

It just that Man. United would be nothing without Ronaldo. [IMG]

    Rooney is losing his shine.

Anderson and Nani will be top class soon.

He has the same cocky thing that Ronaldo used (not sure if it is used) to have. Once he gets over that, he may be more user friendly...

It's not that. He loves to play with the ball like Ronaldo does, holding it up. When Ronaldo first came to the EPL he won't pass much, similar to Nani. Difference was Ronaldo was able to break down guys. Nani can't. So unless Nani learns to give the ball up quickly, don't know how patient Ferguson will be with him.

Face the facts. Ferguson is crap at training up young talent. That's why he buys all his players for millions.

Yeah, crap isn't he. They didn't nurture Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, the Nevilles did they? No, he is crap, you're right.

Onto the "ultimatum", this has been said throughout the summer over here, but I don't believe it. Second, it's been quoted in the Marca newspaper who, as far as I know, talk absolute bollocks most of the time, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Four players matured in the past 10+ years? I'd hardly call that good youth coaching.

Flethcher, O'Shea, Wes Brown, Frazier Campbell, Danny Wellbeck, Jonny Evans are all in/around the first team now. They'd walk into most Premiership teams.

Then you look at Arsenal; Wenger buys players young, but can't get them at the very young ages. And Arsenal look like a selling club now, with their debt from the stadium.

The debt of the stadium is the exact same shit this "Marca" newspaper is saying.

Flamini: he left because he was a glory hunter, and wanted more money.
Gilberto: he left because his career at Arsenal is pretty much over.
Lehmann: nothing needs to be said.
Hleb: I am still very surprised by his choice, and I'm not 100% sure why he left.

We're not a "selling team" if we replace the players we sold, with other highly rated players. And from what I hear, Wenger is not done yet.

Anyway, pretty decent list of players, although compared to Wenger's players he has sculpted, they do seem a bit weak (I haven't even heard of Evans). O'Shea is a family friend by the way.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Wenger buys players young, but can't get them at the very young ages.</div>

I don't understand what you mean by that, please explain.

How can you not have heard of Evans - he was the guy accused of rape!

On FM (since it has all player histories) here is a list of (some) Arsenal players:

Adebayor - bought for £5m from Monaco in 2005
Bendtner - bought for £75k from FC Copenhagen in 2004
Clichy - bought for £250k from Cannes in 2003
Denilson - bought for £1.9m from Sao Paulo in 2006
Diaby - bought for £2m from Auxerre in 2005
    Djourou - acquired from Etoile-Carouge in 2003
    Eboue - bought
    Eduardo - bought
    Fabianski - bought
    Fabregas - bought
Flamini was acquired on free, since left irl
Gallas - part exchange Ashley Cole
    Hleb - bought, since left
    Rosicky - bought
    Sagna - bought
Senderos - bought for £2.5m from Servette in 2003
Toure - bought for £150k from ASEC in 2001
Traore - been there since 2005, possibly acquired from elsewhere as teenager (unsure)
    van Persie - bought
    Walcott - bought

So, basically, Arsenal have bought their entire team. United still have Giggs, Neville, Scholes, Wes Brown, Danny Simpson, Darren Fletcher and John O'Shea who were nurtured at the club and make first team appearances regularly(ish).

Wenger is a phenomenal spotter of talent abroad, and does an excellent job of nurturing the talent, but the same goes for Fergie who has managed to pluck players that few have heard of in England and makes them into stars.

A nice debate going on, this is what we need. [IMG]

As for Ferguson, he's doing an excellent job at trying to keep Ronaldo on the team.

    Oh okay, I understand now.

I have no retort, because these are the facts. Fergie and Wenger are good at spotting talent in their respective ways.
