We overpaid for Deng. Sure, he's young, but I just don't see a star in that guy. But, he was our best player last season in an off year. Gordon is the 2nd to 3rd best player on the team and he's demanding to be paid as well. Overpaid. Hinrich, if he plays like last year, is terribly overpaid. Hughes? Don't get me started on that contract. I'd rather Deng and Gordon get that money and be slightly overpaid than have the twin dogs Hinrich and Hughes sucking it up for another year. Its sad we're overpaying above average players like stars, just because there really are not any other options save for tanking. (and admission that a half decade of lotto picks have amounted to nothing of note). We could hope for a trade, but I just don't see it happening with Paxson as the GM. Unless its a player dump trade. Wheeee. Its just sad we're locked into these bad contracts at the guard position and it may lead to the loss of our best guard, Ben Gordon. Sure, he's not a point guard. But Hinrich is a bad guard (if he plays like last season) so it does not really matter. And we just drafted a PG with the #1 freaking pick in the draft so we should be assuming that guy is going to be the PG. It would be nice to go forward with Rose, Gordon, Thabo, Deng, Gooden, TT, Noah and Gray. Unfortunatley, we're stuck with Paxson's boy Hinrich and the hangover from the botched Cap Space plan in Hughes. And I fear we're about to lose our best and only real scorer. What a bad job of giving the proper guys the money. For a team that stresses "financial flexibility" for half a decade, we're really up against it now. Its going to be a tough slog next season with Hughes and Hinrich at the 2 I fear.
We had financial flexibility but decided to use it on Wallace. Which, originally, did work. But it only worked for 1 year. I too am scared we'll lose Gordon, thus losing the one guy on the team that can score down the stretch of games. But for Rose to realize his potential, we have to surround him with players too. He can't do it by himself. Deng is a step in the direction of that. I was holding out hope for a short contract (3 years) for Gordon....to see if the Rose/Gordon backcourt can work.
I just think that we overpaid for Nocioni if we were going to eventually install him as a starter. Now we have to streaky, injury prone SF signed to lucrative contracts.
So does Deng get some time at the 2 this year? I mean....how many years now have we been hearing that Deng would get some burn at the 2; Nocioni at the 3?
