The Kings have selected Center Spencer Hawes and Power Forward Jason Thompson in the past two drafts and now they are trading Artest for Small Forward Donte Greene. Pair them with the young backcourt of Shooting Guard Kevin Martin, Point Guard Beno Udrih and swingman Francisco Garcia to form a pretty interesting young nucleus. Now the Kings still have some veterans even after the Artest trade with Brad Miller, Mikki Moore, John Salmons, possibly Bobby Jackson (if they keep him) and the bad contract of Kenny Thomas. SAR's on the roster, but he is useless. This is an interesting gamble with that mix of young players. So how soon until Miller is moved for another young player?
I like Greene but it would have been great if they could have dumped Thomas' contract. Although unless the team is in contention, they're not going to attract FA's no matter how much cap space they have so getting a young "potential" guy was probably the right move. Unless, of course, the Maloofs take them to Vegas. Then they need all the cap space they can get!
