Bay is .282 with 22 homers this season. That's pretty good considering that he doesn't have anywhere near the quality of David Ortiz and Mike Lowell hitting behind him, so those numbers will probably only go up.

I don't mind a Manny deal, but I don't think the Sox should be throwing in money and top prospects.

Manny to Bay by itself is a downgrade. Now we're throwing in other prospects and also have a mediocre reliever coming our way? Awful.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>As midnight approached on Wednesday night, officials from the Marlins and Red Sox said a deal involving Manny Ramirez was not done. Indications from Pittsburgh were that the Pirates were not satisfied with the players they were receiving in exchange for sending Jason Bay to Boston. And in California, Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, said he had been told nothing, which means nothing has been completed in terms of Ramirez waving his no-trade rights or in completing paperwork to send to the commissioner's office.

So, the complicated three-way deal may go down close to Thursday's 4 p.m. deadline. Ramirez wants out, and will go to Florida. The Marlins want him, and what he means to their pennant chances and pursuit of a new ballpark. The Red Sox clearly are willing to finance Ramirez's exit.

But the value of the young players was a sticking point late into the night, and one Red Sox official said, "this is anything but done."

The Nomar Garciaparra deal in 2004 went down to minutes before the deadline, and there was so much confusion the Twins never received the second prospect they thought they were owed. This may be Nomar Redux.</div>

Wasn't Lowrie a supplemental pick just a few years ago? What is Theo on?

If they're getting Bay it's really not that bad for the BoSox. Bay is a very good righty power hitter and it would get rid of the distraction that is Manny.

    Manny >>>>>>>>>>>>> Bay

And giving up Jed Lowrie is a huge mistake. Bad, bad trade for the Sox.

If they've made up their mind on trading Manny, then Bay is the best we're going to get. I won't be that upset about it.

He might not be involved after all. The article I posted doesn't mention him anywhere.

I think the Marlins are the ones acting crazy.

They want Manny around all those kids?

And they are giving up Hermida?

And they need pitching. They already hit a bazillion home runs. Offense is not their problem.

If you can rid youself of Manny and replace him with Jason Bay, get down on your knees and thank the Lord....Jason Bay will deposit shots on the left side of Peskys Pole like mad, he will play the game right, and he wont be a clubhouse cancer.....his numbers will jump in that park with that lineup protection....

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Embattled superstar Manny Ramirez has approved a trade to the Marlins, SI.com has learned. While the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates are still negotiating details of the mega-trade and nothing has been finalized by the teams, one major hurdle has been cleared by Ramirez accepting the deal ahead of time, according to people familiar with the negotiations. The Red Sox approached Ramirez in advance of their negotiations, and got his OK. Ramirez signed off on the paperwork, contingent upon the two $20-million team options for 2009 and '10 being dropped. The move will set the stage for Ramirez to become a free agent this winter, assuming a trade can be completed by the three teams.</div>

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Two sources have told ESPN that the complicated three-team deal what would send Manny Ramirez from Boston to Florida is all but dead.

The deal, which exploded in the baseball rumor mill Wednesday night, would have sent Ramirez from the Red Sox to the Marlins, included the Pittsburgh Pirates, who were reportedly considering sending Jason Bay to Boston. The Pirates would have received prospects. Names included outfielder Jeremy Hermida or outfielder Josh Willingham, plus pitchers.

ESPN's Peter Gammons was told by a source close to the negotiations Florida reportedly asked Boston for a cash outlay beyond the $7 million to cover Ramirez's contract in addition to two prospects. That would essentially add up to the Red Sox trading Ramirez, $9 million and two prospects for Pittsburgh's Jason Bay.

As of Thursday morning, Ramirez told ESPNdeportes.com's Enrique Rojas that he hasn't heard anything about a possible trade.

"Nobody has called me from Boston, and neither has my agent [Scott Boras]," Ramírez said. "The only thing I know of a possible trade is what I've seen in ESPN."

SI.com reported that Ramirez has approved a possible trade to the Marlins, but no agreement has been reached. However, Ramirez told ESPNdeportes.com that he hasn't approved a trade to Florida. Ramirez said he would call Boras, to check on SI.com's story.</div>

Not that moving Manny is a bad idea...but it seems like the should get more then that for him
