I just read a speculation piece by a baseball writer that theorized that the Rays farm system is so stocked with high end talent, it makes it nearly impossible for them to make routine trades, because other teams always ask for one of the many top-flight prospects, and you can only get teams to go so far down your system before they refuse to participate.....could this actually be true?

How about the systems where there is only 1 guy everyone wants, that team won't move him and then trades move on without being able to acquire that young talent?

I don't buy that's why it's hard for the Rays to make trades. They don't want to take on salary so they rebut that all the teams are asking for too much.

All teams have hardships. Just have to work around them while making trades that are good for both sides. Don't do that, then teams won't trade with you as they fear that they will be fleeced.

I know its hard to trade for all teams, especially those with crap farm systems....Ive never seen anyone suggest that having too many talented players in your farm system is working against you on the trade market....its an interesting theory....

The Rays have lots of pitching prospects but not many blue chip batters.

    Pitchers in the System:

David Price- just promoted to AAA after a 7-0 in 9 starts and a ERA of around 1.50.
Jeremy Hellickson- a hot commodity at trade deadline, but rays didnt want to get rid of the 20 year old RHP in AA
Wade Davis- was rated as a top 15 prospect going into the season, in AAA now but hasnt performed like he should
Jacob Mcgee- LHP who just had tommy john surgery
Wade Townsend- he was a 8th overall pick in back to back years but has struggled will be a relief pitcher
Eduardo Morlan- came over in the delmon young trade, closer for the rays in a few years.

    Batters:
    1. Tim Beckham- SS- 1st overall pick tht has struggled in rookie ball early but has rebounded in the last month
    2. Justin Ruggiano- has been up twice in the MLB, will be up with the injury to Crawford.
    3. Fernado Perez- OF- speedster
    4. OF Ryan Royster- speedester
Not really a prospect but 1B Dan Johnson who is about 26 played for the A's for 3 years and is destroying AAA pitching
