There was a joke last year (when Snell was pitching well) that the Pirates would trade Bay for a pitcher worst than Snell, and Snell for a hitter worse than Bay, and consider it progress.
I'm a bit bothered by this trade. I like Jason Bay. I think he'll do well. He'll be much better defensively on the road, but it will take time for him to play the Monster like Manny does. Bay's numbers are close to what Manny has done this season and he hasn't had near the quality of Ortiz and Lowell behind him. What bothers me is that we dealt two decent prospects and money in it as well.

They give away one of the best Sox hitters since Ted, prospects, and cash, without getting any prospects back. Jason Bay is gerat, but he's no can't scare pitchers like Manny could. Please. You have a guy physically assaulting your employees, jaking it on the field and rubbing your faces in it and ripping your organization in the press. And that's just what we know about. You replace him with an excellent, much younger, very popular player who is signed through next year at a bargain price, and will be wrapping balls around the Pesky Pole long after Manny is "being Manny" as a greeter at Foxwoods. All it cost was money and a few mid-level prospects. Plan B was to have Moss play instead of Manny, so you should thank the great and powerful Jobu it worked out this way.

That sucks! Bay's fuckin 30, he'll be old shit soon enough. While Brandon Moss will make like David Murphy and rip it up in Pittsburgh. I'll be watching some random Pirates game in two years, marveling at how Pittsburgh's FO pinned the Sox FO down and fucked them enough to get Brandon Moss AND Craig Hansen out of us.

Bay is 6 years younger, will mash in that lineup and in that ballpark, his attitude is infinitely better than Manny's, hes cheaper, hes signed past this year at a low number....the only place i see a downgrade is Manny's experience playing balls off the wall, but I have a feeling Bay can figure that out....the Red Sox were lucky to get bailed out of this situation by the Pirates....

Do you know who Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen are? They're not some random scrubs. Moss can hit the hell out of the ball, and he has a rocket arm. Very highly regarded prospect. Hansen's struggled a bit this year, but he still projects as a quality reliever in the future. We traded both of those guys, solid solid prospects, with a player who was BETTER than Jason Bay, just to acquire Jason Bay. Nothing else. How the hell are we lucky? The Pirates didn't bail us out of shit, they took our lifeboats.
Do you not understand that Manny is CANCER in that clubhouse? Now you will win the division, if you hadnt traded him, he was dragging you right to the gutter....when you marry a slut, no matter how hot she is, she will eventually fuck you over, and when she does, you have to get rid of her, even if it costs you a bit in the settlement....you knew it going in though, when you walked down the isle with her....you had some good times, got 2 rings, but manny is a baseball slut, and you just traded her in for a nice girl thats almost as hot, and wont cost you nearly as much money or cheat on you....count your blessings, you could be alone, metephorically speaking....
