The "need" to trade him can be summed up as follows: (1) When he plays, will he be able to succeed in Frank's system, or will he immediately become the weak link? (for this team to be successful, EVERYONE will have to be on board) (2) When he doesn't play, will he complain and just be a distraction? (3) Could the roster spot be better utilized for someone like Hodge or Carroll--or a legitimate third center? (4) As they have done in the past, do the Nets intend to start the season with a 14-man roster? (in which case merely buying out Ager will not be enough if they intend to address the PG and C depth issues) They will be able to trade Sean.

I think they'll find a match eventually.
Why would they be calling for Sean? He's a great shot blocker with a better-than-expected offensive game but he's someone who struggled to play a full 82 game season. His fading away late in the season is probably the reason teams are reluctant to trade for him.
Everyone thinks it's good news that no one wants Sean. It makes me wonder. Actually it scares me that 30 teams full of talent evaluators don't see something there.

Why give up a boat load for Josh Smith when you have a hyper-athletic shot blocking prospect with enormous upside on your own team already? Develop Sean, don't let him go to the Hawks or Bulls or any other team and become the player he's supposed to become.

Nice, I like it that no one wants Sean, but kind of a bummer that the Nets can't get something for Swift.
i dont see why people are so shocked by this. 1- why would someone want Swift now? His contract is going to be very important around the trade deadline when teams realize that they suck and need to clear cap room. 2- As for sean, he did fall to us in the draft. So I dont see people automatically changing their mind about him. IMO I also think that Thorn is packaging him with another player.
I'm quite upset that the Nets are looking to trade Sean Williams. They may not be getting calls for him, now, but sooner or later, it's going to happen. Hopefully by then, they decide that he is a valuable asset. As for Stromile, what can you expect? No one wants this guy. He's an unattractive player. The Nets will need to combine him with another player or cash if they want to teams to even consider trading for him.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (J Piz @ Aug 1 2008, 10:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Sean Williams isn't Josh Smith. Smith is a better shooter, rebounder, and all around scorer.</div> Of course he isn't, but he has that athleticism and potental.
swift is a nice asset to have this year...he can be great for a trade with a non-playoff team clearing out cap space...and also, swift will be playing his ass off as he will be playing for another contract...maybe the last of his career...i remember one game last year when he got his offensive game going with some pretty dunks and he got so pumped up he was actually playing defense...there was one point in the game when the nets were pressing and stro effectively bothered the other team's guards with his length and footspeed ala scottie pippen...
