The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced forward Craig Smith underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee. Dr. Charles Moon of Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Center in Los Angeles performed the surgery this afternoon. Smith will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks.

The Wolves drafted Smith in the second round (36th overall) of the 2006 NBA Draft. In two NBA seasons with Minnesota, Smith has averaged 8.4 points (.548 FG%) and 4.8 rebounds per game. Last season, the Boston College product averaged a career-best 9.4 points (.563 FG%) and 4.6 rebounds per game in 77 appearances, including a career-high 36 points on Dec. 11 vs. the Washington Wizards. In 2006-07, Smith was one of only three rookies to appear in all 82 regular-season games and posted 7.4 ppg (.531 FG%) and 5.1 rpg. The Timberwolves re-signed Smith, a restricted free agent, to a new contract on July 17.</div>
