<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"The Dark Knight" is still on the tip of everyone's tongue. But now, instead of folks breathlessly asking each other if they'd seen it, talk has turned to speculation over Batman's next foe. Who's it gonna be? iVillage is reporting that the Caped Crusader may take on the Riddler in "Batman 3." According to the rumor mill, Johnny Depp might sign on to play the nefarious super-criminal. But caveat emptor—this could be just as false as the one about Crispin Glover playing the Joker. Slashfilm notes that there are additional possibilities floating around. For instance, Phillip Seymour Hoffman may play the Penguin or Angelina Jolie could don Catwoman's skin-tight suit. Truth or fiction, fanboys around the world must be having a heart attack at the mere possibility. Still, the "official" rumor mill is just one of the ways superfans are checking in on the next Batman flick. Many seek the scoop themselves. We've noticed impressive searches on "batman 3 rumors," "dark knight sequel casting rumors," and "batman's next villain." That last query is very telling. People clearly want to know the answer, but we doubt even the filmmakers have decided. To that end, may we offer the studio execs this humble piece of Search-informed advice: Go with Catwoman. She's far-and-away the most popular baddie and there are already a slew of searches on possible cast members including Jessica Biel, Amy Adams, and, wait for it, Maggie Gyllenhaal. Do fans think Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne's one-and-only, was really the Catwoman all along?</div> Source

These rumors don't really make any sense based on what Nolan is doing with the series. I really doubt he wants a Catwoman character and if he did I doubt it would be Angelina Jolie. Didn't they already say they wanted to get some characters that haven't already been done? Like the article says, executives probably haven't decided what to do yet.
Dawes as Catwoman? Wait, is that how it was in the comics? That'd be a strange twist. Hm. Well, what characters haven't been done yet? Anyone have a list or something?
I would love to see Ras al Ghul again, hes one of my favorite Batman villains. But I think that may be too supernatural for the way the franchise has been handled.
They don't have a script and IIRC Nolan hasn't signed on to do another movie yet either. Two Face is going to be the main villain in the next film, presumably. I think they should go in a different direction and use Bane or something. Catwoman has been done to death and Riddler/Penguin are both too "out there" for the direction they've been going in.

While watching The Batman (animated series) last night. The villian was the Riddler... the way it was portrayed; the perfect person IMO to be play E. Nygma is Chris Barrie. He was the Butler in the Tomb Raider movies and is more famous for playing Arnold Rimmer on the BBC Series Red Dwarf. No to Mrs Tom Cruise as the Catwoman. How 'bout Kate Beckinsale? Here is another thought; Sir Anthony Hopkins as the Penguin. Forget the Danny Devitio as the Circus freak Penguin. In the comics and elsewhere the Penguin is more of a crime boss which fits in with the thme currently being used.

I don't know about you guys, but I really liked Jim Carrie as the Riddler the first time around. IMO he was a good, wacky choice.
Nah I wouldn't want this to be a goofy character. I think the Riddler with the "dark" spin on it would be awesome, though.

I like what Carrey did, and I just don't think the Riddler really fits these types of Batman movies. Really, though, I don't know how you can top the Dark Knight. I could see the next movie being a total let down.
Isn't the real Riddler an OCD genius that can't commit a crime without leaving an elaborate set of clues? I think he'd be a cool villain, but I have a hard time thinking of anything he'd bring other than the standard hero vs. villain dimension. What's made these two movies stand out so much is the way they touch on themes and concepts beyond what you usually expect from a blockbuster comic book film.
