hey guys... i kno its very unlikely... but what do u guys think if we made a run at RFA ben gordon or JR smith? i think netted or NI stated it in another topic but i cant find it... (too lazy to look for it -i tried but not too hard ;P) we do have the pieces... to make a deal work... esp with denver... but do we want JR or even ben from the bulls? and btw i watched argentina vs luth and andres nocioni is one gutty player... wouldnt deft not be opposed if we traded for him
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Answer_AI03 @ Aug 10 2008, 10:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Ben Gordon would be good. Idk who you would trade for him, but i think he'd be a good fit in NJ</div> hes gonna be a big addition offensively but a liability on the defensive side playin along side harris... but i personally love ben's game and his stroke and shot is so beautiful
Both would be very good fits, particularly alongside a certain unnamed small forward, but I think Smith would be more likely, given the contracts each are looking for. Smith seems like he'd be willing to take a deal about the size of the MLE, Gordon would want more, and hamper flexibility in '10. I've thought about it, and the only way I see a trade for Gordon, is if it's Vince+ for Gordon and Hughes, so we can retain flexibility. Smith also has more upside IMO.
I'd prefer JR, both are a liabilities on the defensive end but Smith isn't undersized and is very athletic. JR would also come at a cheaper price, and has the tools to be a special player. Harris Smith Unnamed small foward Yi Lopez
As noted elsewhere, the Nets have been stockpiling those assets usually desired in sign-and-trades... 1. Expiring contracts: Stromile Swift @ $6.2 million, KVH @ $4 million ($500,000 or less guaranteed), Mo Ager @ $1.04 million. For a team looking to get under luxury tax threshold, KVH's contract is ideal. 2. First round picks: Dallas in 2010 (unprotected) and Golden State in 2011 (heavily protected through 2013). Better value than what the Nets sent Toronto for Carter in 2004. 3. Good young players: Sean Williams and/or Josh Boone. 4. Cash: $3 million from the Kidd deal minus whatever small amount sent to Orlando for Dooling. Assets are there, but both the free agent and team have to be willing to deal. I suspect both will stay where they are, but what is odd is that Smith hasn't re-signed. He has not expressed, at least publicly, any doubts...like Gordon has. They apparently want him to agree to a starting salary of less than the MLE. He wants more, although neither side has gone public. In July, both Kerber and Iannazzone said the Nets were interested him.
I'd take Smith every day of the week over Gordon. Gordon is undersized and can't play D. Smith's shot is just as good as JR, they are both streaky shooters and smith has the potential to drive more with his athleticism if he improves his handle. Smith just has more potential period and he'd be a great fit with carter. Gordon is a guy that has to be next to a big PG he's just too much of a liability defensively and is not so dominant on offense that it offsets his height, dude is a 6' 2'' SG, what would we do if iguodala came to town put devin on him?
Smith hands down for HASSELL,VAN HORN,AGER,BOONE. They need bodies and we have too many suckass players.

I'm so fed up with people packaging these 4 garbage names together and expecting to get nay real value for them. How many teams are actually willing to trade god players without getting one good young player in return. Expiring contracts simply aren't enough. The Nuggets already cleared space with Camby, i doubt theyd do another move like that, unless of course theyw anted to deal with two extremely pissed off superstars in AI and Melo.

Ben Gordon for those guys? The closest thing to a great player for them is a guy who they have fairly similar in with Tyrus Thomas. It'd take a couple first rounders to get anywhere.

How many do they need?? ALso they don't have the $$$ JR wants. The bottom line they could do a sign & trade to hook up JR since they cant keep him. We would be foolish if we don't try.
well they probably made the call... wasnt there some article with thorn being quoted saying that he is basically done with the roster revamp... all the changes will be minor...
Wouldn't take either of them. Smith is a selfish idiot who can't play D and who does nothing but score. Gordon is undersized for a 2 and will not be worth his contract no matter how you spin it. Plus, we have VC at the 2, who is far better than either of those 2. We need a lockdown perimeter defender, preferably who can play the 3.
Smith is a good defender, and has more potential than anyone on the nets roster, and most players on other teams for that matter.
