I will be watching all of China's basketball games and use this thread to give you guys a headsup on how he plays, and stuff that the stats will not show.
I hope this gives a little insight on what to expect.

i just finished watching china vs. spain. Gasol Played really great, 30 points, 8 rebounds or something, killed yao in the end. sun was okay, he didnt make any real mistakes, but he didnt stand out that much either, though he does set the pace for the ball movement very well and is very impressive in his pure point gaurd skills. what impressed me the most was ricky rubio (spelling ?) the 17 year old for spain, jesus christ this kid was fantastic, literaly stole the game from china, what a great defender, and so quick, compare him to sasha a bit, with the peskyness, but more like leandro barbosa, so fast, and a very very good stealer, he'll be in the nba soon enough.

I agree with you. Sun didn't have a great offensive game, and I'm not counting those last three misses cause his teammates gave him the ball with like 3secs left to shoot it EACH TIME. He is really good at feeding the post, and keeping the ball moving from side to side. He has great vision, driving in and kicking out to his shooters. On defense, he stayed in front of Calderon, the problem with China is their pick and roll defense, the big men are too slow, and Yi doesn't like to rotate as a help defender.

Overall, still impressed with Sun. With the kind of backcourt pressure that Spain puts on you, offensively and defensively, he handled himself well. Liu Wei made alot of turnovers at the end of the game, and Sun didn't have a single turnover the entire time I was watching, but I came in at 37-33 China lead. I'm so excited to have him and will keep track of all his Olympic games.

I really wish they make the medal round, because they are capable of upsetting someone. I think at the end they will be competing against Germany for that final spot from this group.

Pau has more energy now than he did at the Finals...

And the thing about Sun is that at the ebst of times your team can get really good through his passing and ability to hit the shot when he's on, but so far in the Olympics, when he is on the worst of times, he isn't a liability. He still plays D and stays in front of people and blocks shots, while on offense, whether he is hitting the shot or not, he keeps the ball moving through the offense.

Yeah, I like Rubio's game, and there are rumors stating he may go first overall. I think he's going to be OK in the NBA, but nothing spectacular. Just look at all the other "AMAZING" Euros that came into the league and didn't do anything. Macijauskas, Jasikevicius, Spanoulis, the list goes on and on.
I wish Theo Papaloukas took the Laker offer last year. He would have been great, and he's probably the only NBA ready player in Europe.

    They just played Angola...

Sun had 11pts on 4-4 and not missing any free throws. 2 of those shots were threes. 2 asts. 2 stls.

    I like the shooting [IMG]

Absolutely agree. In this game, the guy impressed me most is not Gasol, it is Ricky.Rubio. This little kid is a genius. He has very good defence skill, and really can read the game well. He will go to NBA, i am sure about that.

I still can't believe Ricky Rubio is only 17 years old. He has a lot of confidence for a kid so young. He's been living up to the hype thus far in the Olympics.

I'm not expecting much from Sun Yue in his first season with the Lakers. The potential is there for him to be a solid role player for us, but it's going to take time for him to adjust to the pro game and gain the trust of PJax to play him minutes.

He did show some good instincts on defense, especially the weakside block he had on Dwight Howard. I like his length and his ability to dribble coast to coast.

His jumpshot mechanics need a lot of work and he does have a bad habit of dribbling the ball high and not protecting it from the defender with his off arm.

Yeah, it is great seeing Shape again. He always notices the smallest details too.
