    Sign and Trade For Gordon?

8/10/08- With the recent news that Chicago and Ben Gordon are still far apart in contract negotiations, the Timberwolves could explore a possible trade with the Bulls that would bring Gordon over in a sign and trade and in exchange the T'Wolves would give up a few draft picks and one or two players like Brewer, McCants or Carney.

Sure this sounds interesting, but do we really need him? Sure what we would be giving up wouldn't be all that much...I'm just worried about thw 11-12 mil a year (at least) deal that could be stuck on our books for the next 4-5 years (the deal he is rumored to want).

I think it could work with the contracts of Booth and Collins coming off the books after this season (7+ mil) and the money added between say, McCants and Carney's contracts (combined 6+ mil after 2009) not to mention the 6.5 mil contract of Cardinal expiring in time for the 2010 off-season. if the cap space from the next off season is carried over....even if Gordon is making 12 mil a year...we could still have over 14mil cap space in 2010!!! Lets not forget Miller's 9+ mil contract is up as well (which I'm sure he will be willing to take a cheaper deal to help the team...if not they can let him go...he'll be 33 by then)

Were talking about a possible lineup of

    PG: Foye, Telfair
    SG: Gordon
    SF: Miller, Brewer
    PF: Big Al, Gomes, Rhino
    C: Love

And 14-17 mil cap space.....and still have multiple picks...just think...if we go for a player that can play PG....and a solid Center (veteran or reasonable contract) ....hmmmm

PG: Joe Johnson (T.J. Ford if we go for Amare or Tyson Chandler ), Telfair
    SG: Gordon, Foye
    SF: Miller, Brewer
    PF: Big Al, Gomes, Rhino
C: Love, (Amare,Tyson Chandler, Camby or Brad Miller)

I'm thinking it's interchangable: If we go for JJ then we go for B.Miller or Camby as well, but If we go for Amare we try and get TJ Ford...

Could be a nice young squad with a mix of verterans...and ready for a playoff run

Would making a run at Gordon be giving up on Foye? I think they are very similar with Foye being a little more well rounded. Personally I'd give Foye another shot at staying healthy before locking up that money in a very small backcourt. Besides, do you think Gordon is someone who can eventually take you deep in the playoffs. Maybe it's just me but I don't think he'll ever be a starter on a title contending team. He can be a very good 6th man but that's a lot of money to have come off the bench.

I hear what your saying and in no way am i saying they should (i personally don't want them to) I'm just coming up with possible scenerios if they do end up going the way of the rumor. I would much rather they keep the cap room and make a run at a top talent or two semi-stars along with building through their many picks in the draft.

Interesting. I'm not a huge fan of this idea though, considering we have two players who are very similar to him in size and playing style in McCants and Foye. The one big thing is Gordon is more accomplished than those two. We do have the draft picks to move.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of it either. I would much rather we use our extra young players and picks on trading for an established PG or Center

Just another thought...instead of working a deal with Chicago for Gordon, wouldn't prove to be better for the team if we worked a trade for Kirk Hinrich instead?

I can see Hinrich being a better fit in Minnesota and it wouldn't send the message that they have given up on Foye

    hmmm:

    PG: Hinrich, Tefair
    SG: Foye
    SF: Miller, Brewer
    PF: Big Al, Gomes
    C: Love

    I do like that better

***This is not a rumor going around...this is mearly my input...thank you
