Del Piero Unworried By Milan Defeat

Alessandro Del Piero shrugged off Juventus' 4-1 Trofeo Berlusconi loss to Milan, saying that there were worse matches to commit mistakes in. He also spoke to SKY about his form and the upcoming season...

"Certainly this (loss) counts. But, we must give it due credit," the Juve striker explained, referring to the fact the game was an exhibition match. "The important thing is not to make these kinds of mistakes on Wednesday.

"We can say the squad has definitely been reinforced. The problem is so have Inter and Milan. We will see the true gap between us on the field."

Del Piero is in competition with three others for a place in the starting XI, but insists he is compatible with all of his striking partners: "I played well tonight with him (Amauri), I played well with David (Trezeguet) on Wednesday and Vincenzo (Iaquinta) is an excellent player. There is no preference on my part."

The Juve skipper was much more upbeat when talking about his personal form and his international call-up. "I am glad because of this good moment I am experiencing," he said. "(I am) Feeling good because Lippi won the World Cup along with many of us, so I think that, like when Donadoni took charge two years ago, there is again great enthusiasm, lots of desire, and the same thoughts from two years ago."

Juventus fans will be pleased with their captain's optimistic attitude ahead of the new season. The team is looking to reclaim their place as a giant in football after being relegated to Serie B two years ago as a result of the Calciopoli scandal.

A 4-1 defeat to Milan is really poor. They should be worried actually considering how much they (Juve) did this summer.

Do you think age has to be a factor with Juve? Or just a lack of free agents during the summer?

Well, Juventus did sign Amauri, which is pretty big. They also picked up Knezevic and Poulsen this summer, so they aren't lacking in power. AC Milan on the other hand are the aging ones that I'm concerned about. They desperately needed Flamini and Pato to revive the club.
