    Our roster right now:

    PG: Harris, Dooling
    SG: VC, Ager, CDR
    SF: Simmons, Hayes, Hassell
PF: Yi, Najera, Anderson, Swift, KVH
    C: Boone, Lopez, Sean

That is 16 players, but KVH will be bought out from his contract before the season starts, wherever he is, since his contract would become guaranteed for another 2 seasons if he is not :)...

we do have space under the luxury tax, so it's possible that we use KVH in a trade, putting us closer to LTT.
But that takes us back to 16 players...
We usually go into the season with 14 players max...
will it be a 2 or 3 for 1 trade with KVH + others?

we need another guard in the worst way... our backcourt depth is Dooling by himself, if Ager or CDR don't become something very quickly...

will this guard be a high salaried player in a trade, who expires before 2010?
maybe Larry Hughes or someone like him for KVH, Stro and Hassell?? cuts salary for our trade partner, and balances our roster...

Or will we just sign Hodge or Carroll for the minimum? who do we waive then??

who do we waive anyway??? Ager would be the easyest to waive, but that doesn't make sense, because that would leave us with even less backcourt players... Stro is an expirer too, so he could be bought out too, but he has way too high salary to buy out IMO...

we all feel that Hassell and Stro are the players who don't belong here... but are they moveable?

Will we just start the season with this totally unbalanced, frontcourt heavy roster??

    make predictions!

you mean buyout Ager and KVH, and sign Hodge or Carroll?
or do you think we don't need 3rd string guards at all and CDR will do well as VC's primary backup?

Well, to start out, Carroll signed in Europe, I believe. So scratch that.

Ager's pretty much useless to us. KVH and Swift could be useful at the deadline, when some team with a really good player and really terrible record with no light at the end of the tunnel wants a way out. We could be that way out.

Or, KVH and Swift could be used to get a good backup PG. Think Hinrich would like being backup? :)

As for the guard situation....I think we could make due with Devin, Keyon, Vince, Hayes, Hassell, CDR as the guards.

Stro will be moveable, Hassell...probably not.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think KVH's contract becomes guaranteed if he is not bought out before the season.
And he will not even be an expirer. he will have 2 years left...

So his contract will not be useful at the deadline at all imo...

I had to look this up for myself, because I had no clue..

    According to storyteller:
So yeah, it becomes guaranteed for this season, but he's not really guaranteed for next season.

Which means he would be as valuable next summer as he is this summer.

    Essentially, it's an expiring contract.

SWat, Swift, KVH, Ager, Hassel, GS pick for Marion. Sign Hodge+Livingston.

    PG: Harris, Dooling, Livingston
    SG: VC, CDR, Hodge
    SF: Marion, Simmons, Hayes
    PF: Yi, Najera, Anderson
    C: Boone, Lopez

he is probably assuming that stro doesn't have a spot here, because we already have Sean and Boone, who ar pretty similar but younger players, for less money..
...and we just drafted another 2 bigs in Lopez and Anderson...
    ..signed Najera...
    ...and traded for Yi...

doesn't leave much role for Swift..

That is my hope also. Swift shouldn't be around the kids.

Of course, Keith will be waived, if he isn't traded.

That's the move I want to see. Sounds like he fits the new offense too. Can handle the ball, create for others, and defend.

Takes some pressure off VC to carry the whole load therefore taking pressure off the young guys.

I didn't know there is such a thing...
Last season was guaranteed for KVH, but the next 2 seasons are not guaranteed now..
but doesn't it become guaranteed if we dont buy him out now?

I though it works like a team option...
are you saying that he will have a 2 year totally unguaranteed contract now?

You guys got a perimeter shooter, an out-of-position SF, another perimeter shooter, a dunker, and a contract at the power forward spot. I'd expect Nets management to make a move to get some bulk and toughness at that position, if possible.

Actually Sean and Boone are PFs too... i just put them at C to balance it out a bit... and i didn't want to put the shooters at center, so i put the 2 toughest PFs there :)
(actually Najera is tougher than Sean, but you already say he is a SF-which he is not-, so i'm glad i didn't put Najera at C)

We should just chose our 3 or 4 PFs to keep and get a real C instead...

Just a prediction--or a hunch, based on my intuition. This entire offseason has been about reforming the entire roster with players that can perform for Coach Frank, both in terms of skill set and mind set (focus on team-oriented goals, both in the short term (individual plays) and the long term (approach to the season and work habits)). The roster, top to bottom, is now compliant with their goals. Every player that has left the team was predictable, starting with the Kidd deal. I felt that there was no chance at all that Krstic or Boki were ever going to return.

In that light, I believe that there is no way that Swift will play another game for the Nets. Not only does he not fit, but of all the players currently on the roster, he doesn't fit the most.

I hope so, but I'd bet my money on Swat being gone before Swift.

The only reason we need a third string PG is because of injury insurance. VC's, DH, and Keyon are gonna be the guys bringing the ball up and making the decisions all game. It's possible we'll sign Hodge but I think we'll leave that spot open for trade flexibility.

I just picture Rod working the phones but coming up unable to make a trade before the season which would benefit us long term. He would then hold onto the assets we have, see what we really have, and try and make another deal at the trade deadline when he finds a team in desperate need for a big.
