Players at Shaq's position aren't necessarily required to shoot threes.

Players at Kidd's position usually are.

Maybe a better example would have been "that's like criticizing Shaq because he can't shoot a 15 ft jumper." Because most of the time, big men are required to shoot a short jumper, but Shaq doesn't need to shoot that jumper because the other skills he has pretty much make up for his inability to shoot a reliable jumper; and pretty much make that skill useless anyways (if he's used the correct way).

Same could be said about Kidd and his overall jumper...

And, for the sake of it, same could be said about Vince Carter's "lack" of leadership, because for most of his previous seasons, he had another player on the team who would take on leadership duties. Thereby making the need of leadership from him obsolete, while the skills that make him valuable remain

But now you're saying that a scoring PG is the only type there is, where as a pass-first guard on a team full of shooters is someone a detriment. Kidd's ability to get other people the ball make up for the fact that he doesn't score a lot (unless he's on Dallas and all of a sudden starts trying again :()

Ah, wait a second, you're missing what I'm saying. His ability to score isn't all that important - his ability to shoot is most important, especially at his position. There is a difference.

Just look at how important it is to the success of Steve Nash, Jose Calderon, Rajon Rondo, etc.

Those players are wayyy to good of a scorers to be put in the same sentence as Jason Kidd.

Kidds scoring should be put more into the category of....Avery Johnson..or Alvin Williams.

Get a grip, we're all Nets fans. Micro managing and generalizing the fanbase only makes you look foolish (but for what it's worth, Sean Williams fans are the coolest ;)).

Yeah, I guess I don't follow. Shooting is important but scoring isn't? Aren't they one in the same when you're talking about Jason Kidd? He's not a driving player like a Tony Parker-type.

Well it depends on whether the team requires "shooting". In this case the Nets do require shooting, thus Kidd's lack of ability to shoot at a decent percentage would indeed hurt the team.

However, I am also aware that his ability to pass benefits the team in a lot of ways.

If Vince gets a ring with the Nets do you guys think he'll become a Hall of famer? Wouldnt it be ironic if Vince gets his ring in Jersey and retires as a great Net while Jkidd doesnt win shit in Dallas and retires with no ring? :D

If Vince really wanted to win a ring, he should have asked for less and signed with Orlando. I think that would have thrown them up there with Detroit and Boston. The Nets are a real question mark the next couple of years, but they most likely will be outside of title contention.

if vince can be a superstar the next couple of years and average at least 20-21ppg...he will reach 23,000pts.

19 players have done that in nba history. and all of them are in/will be in the hall of fame.

and all star appearances are big in hall of famers. vince has 8 and he was leading vote getter 4 times.

he holds tons of records with the nets and raptors. for scoring and 40pt games and such.

in most circles, he is considered the greatest dunker of all time and he performed the greatest dunks in a dunk contest of all time. hes a top selling jersey of the past 10 years. he won a gold medal in sydney and pulled of the greatest basketball play in history, according to best damn sports shows top 50 plays of all time...it was #6 and #1 from basketball...rest were football and baseball, with his dunk over weis.

he is one of the most all around players in the league with around 24, 6 and 5 any given night (when healthy of course)

i think even if he doesnt win a ring, he will be a hall of famer. i know rick kamla, yeah i know...its rick kamla, did a feature where i get a lot of those stats where he believes that as well. i know commentators a year ago said the nets have "two hall of famers on their team and a parenial all star in jefferson" all the time. ian eagle and mark jackson believe he is one and even coach frank said he is one.

Orlando wasn't even interested in Vince. Money wasn't the issue. After all, they did sign Rashard Lewis to a $120+ contract.
