Baseball has taken a back seat for me with the Olympics. I checked the standings and it's not looking too good. Is it pretty much over for this season? Not fun closing the stadium out this way
They've got 29 games left...10.5 back in the division, 6 games out in the wildcard. There are 4 against the White Sox (who are only 1/2 a game ahead of the twins as of now, so they could easily be in the wild card mix) and 3 against the Red Sox are going to be very important, if they're still hanging around close at the very end of the season. Then the 6 games left against the Rays in that span too could be big depending on how things play out. There is time left to work with, but it's not going to be easy.
The Yankees are emotionally out of it but things can change quickly. One little winning streak would do wonders.
I'm not going to give up hope yet, but our season isn't looking overly optimistic at the moment. Thankfully, we've got plenty of games with the teams in front of us. And as Philly proved last year, anything is really possible. The other thing you have to keep any eye on is how well the Rays are going to play in September. This will be the first season where a game in September is actually meaningful to them. That's a lot of pressure for the young kids on that team, and I'm not saying they can't handle it, but it could be interesting to see if they have any meltdown. Plus, the Red Sox, at least for the past couple years, have played some really complacent September baseball. They almost faltered the division last year in September and did falter it the year before, so I'm not gonna lose all faith. The two teams in front of us haven't given me enough reason to based on what's happened in past seasons.
I'm just praying the young ones stay healthy, and our upcoming FA do well. I haven't seen the passion I would have hoped for, this year. I expect much more next year.
hmmm i love the yanks... but we are so inconsistent... some nites 9+ runs other nites 0... sigh... and our pitchin... well we all kno
Cant the Yanks just buy 10 wins from the Rays and get back into it? Oh, I guess the times are a' changin....
