I don't want to see him go down for his career. So either he gets the major surgery or he gets the surgery that would allow him to play some point this year.

Honestly, I'm not too worried about losing him. Jyles Tucker is more than a capable replacement. With Shaun Phillips and co. also out there, Tucker will fit right in. It's nice being deep at the LB position.

I don't know why people want to sleep on Shaun Phillips.

He is the better all around LBer on that team anyway; he can cover, play the run, and his pass rushing skills aren;t that much of a drop off.

I Love Phillips, I think he is one of the most underrated LB's in the league.

I think if Merriman does get the season-ending surgery, you'll see Phillips really step up and shine.

Jyles Tucker remains to be seen. With Merriman out, the obvious thing to do is chip the ROLB with a TE, and deal with Tuker at the other side. Can't wait to see how they deal with this. I'm not happy that Merriman is injured (for humane reasons), but I am ecstatic that he is not going to be playing this year.

    Well that sucks...

I was rooting for the Chargers to come out of the AFC. Say what you want, but losing one of the best linebackers in the league will hurt them. With that being said, I just checked and found out Merriman is only 24

I could've sworn he was like 27-28, but still, given his age, he has a looooooooong career ahead of him. If I were him, I'd take the surgery and sit out a year rather than jeopardizing my football future
