Crucial series, very important to keep the Yankees at bay while chasing Tampa. Tuesday looks like a disaster already, the other two look OK.

Pretty huge series for the yankees. If they want to make a push for the playoffs, they can't afford to drop any games, especially one of the teams right in front of them for the wildcard.

Fortunately the pitching matchups favor the Sox (except for Tuesday, which I can tell will be brutal). This series is just as important for Boston, to be chasing Tampa in peace (so to speak) as opposed to having to fight off the Yankees while doing it.

    2-1.
4 balls up the middle, one of which Wake made a great play on.

And another reason Jeter should never be allowed between 2nd and 3rd.

Nady misses a HR by feet, but works a walk.

Wake is getting CRUSHED today. 2 balls to the warning track, Nady just misses a HR. Not a good sign for you guys.

Its Tim Wakefield. What are we supposed to expect out of him? He's a 60 year old knuckleballer whose balls don't knuckle anymore, and his other pitches are terrible. He's (one of) the guy we need to cut ties with in the offseason, not Varitek.

It's funny. He's getting crushed, and Andy, not so much. That's baseball, I guess.

That's not baseball, that's status quo. Pettitte's one of the better pitchers in the AL. Wakefield's here on sheer principle at this point.

Pettitte gave up 6 runs in less than 5 innings, though he's been pitching decently well.

Another wasted opportunity. Giambi's killing us today.

Sox are very fortunate to win game 1. Now we have two pretty favorable pitching matchups remaining.
