Sean's biggest hurdle is being familiar with playing high level basketball (after picking up the game late in life, and having a brief college career). I think Yi's got a pretty good lead on Sean in term's of his ability to be useful to a NBA team.
I thought this would be who starts. I believe that with Frank as his coach, Yi will succeed more. He seems to be more of a "Frank-type" player. His shooting will definitely be valuable, and if he is committed to defense as he was on the Chinese team, he should flourish on the Nets.
I imagine that training camp will determine who gets the most minutes at the beginning of the season (unless Ratner demands Yi gets the minutes regardless of camp), and then we'll see who performs better within Frank's system as the season progresses.
Yi is a workout superstar. He does everything he's told at practice like a robot. I'm sure Yi will be the starter in the beginning of the season just like in Milwaukee. As the season progress, that'll be a different story.
I think Najera gets the nod to start the season at PF with Lopez at center. I think Yi will come off the bench in the beginning and as the season goes on he'll move into a starters role. He's going to be a little beat from all the work this summer and Frank will want to bring him along slowly so he'll have something left in the tank at the end of the season.
That doesn't jive. Najera already said during an interview, he's cool being the veteran teaching the youngsters. Also, they don't go all out during practice. Najera shines with his dirty blue collar style in games. He won't be able to rough up his teammates, not sure he'll be diving for balls risking injury during practice. Yi will outperform Najera during practice. Of course, that's just my opinion. Also, Yi is a little more mentally fragile. His performance was worse coming of the bench. The Bucks team last year was a fiasco, terrible all around.
Yi > Williams. Both are athlethic freaks, but a black athletic freak is obviously more athletic than a chinese athletic freak Yi is more skilled, more polished: better positioning on d, more offensive skills. both are a little bit between the 3-4 positon wise, but while swa is there because he is not strong and big enough, Yi is ther because he is skilled enough and a good shooter. Still, the biggest difference is their size. That will make Yi start over Williams. Najera has a chance, but i hope we don't go that way. Lopez has a chance to start at C, but for day one, the position is Boone's to lose. Boone is the starter right now for sure.
I think Yi will be a better all around player then SWill. With more practice Yi will be able to score all over the floor. I also think SWill can develop his offense. His Defense needs some improvement too.
Didn't say he'd demand starting. I just think he will. Najera is here to lead by example and I would guess that he's the type of guy that goes hard all the time. I just think Yi will be tired. I use to think he'd start, but recently changed my opinion. I also think Lopez will start over Boone. I think Lopez gives the team a post presence and the team will want to see what they have early in the season. Najera providing the grit, experience and leadership alongside Lopez makes more sense than Yi. Boone and Yi off the bench gives the team more options. As preseason goes on maybe I'll change my opinion again.
I don't. There will be no back-up center and we'll need one with Lopez picking up plenty of rookie fouls. Swat could get some time there, but he's a little undersized and a fouling machine himself. Could always move Boone to center once Lopez exits, but eventually he'll get tired. Off the bench makes the most sense. In the long-term big picture I think the teams wants Boone as a reserve.
Long term, maybe. But Boone, right now, is the best bigman Nets have. I see him as a starter when the season starts. Of course, I could be wrong.
