Loretta Hunt on Sherdog.com is reporting that EliteXC has scheduled a fight between Kevin Ferguson, aka Kimbo Slice, and UFC legend Ken Shamrock.

This fight cancels rumours that EliteXC was interested in booking police officer Sean Gannon to rematch Slice. It also means that Brett "The Grim" Rogers will have to wait his turn to fight Slice; a match against undefeated heavyweight Dave "Peewee" Herman seems like a natural alternative.

Slice is undefeated in MMA with a record of 3-0. His three wins have come under the EliteXC banner. His first was a TKO of Bo "Redrum" Cantrell at EliteXC: Renegade in late 2007. He has since picked up two more wins--one over former UFC toughman David "Tank" Abbot and, most recently, another against British slugger James "The Colossus" Thompson. All of Slice's victories have come by (T)KO.

Shamrock is a true veteran of MMA having fought on his first UFC card thirteen years ago. Shamrock was widely considered one of the greatest fighters of all time when he retired from the sport to chase a pro wrestling career in 1996. He returned to MMA in 2000 but has had a miserable luck dropping eight of eleven fights including five in a row, all by knockout.

EliteXC sent Shamrock to the UK to fight mediocre heavyweight Buzz Berry in March as a tune-up for his eventual tilt with Slice, but Shamrock was knocked down by a stiff jab in the first round and was unable to recover. The loss has taken steam out of his fight with Slice, but his name alone will be a big draw for the promotion--and when Slice knocks him out, it will only build on Slice's growing reputation.

He's 44-years old and should've retired twelve years ago. At this point he is just Larry Holmes-ing himself.

that's the polite way of putting it.

ken SHAMrock has won 3 fights since 1996. 2 versus no names and one against another old timer who never evolved his game. SHAMrock never improved his skills from the early 90's and he's been lapped twice over by the new generation of MMA.

He should have been out of the fight game after being decimated by Tito Ortiz at UFC 40

at least couture has beaten solid fighters this decade, held a couple of UFC belts and improved his game.

I still respect him WAY more than SHAMrock.

This could still be a test for Kimbo, no?

It'll definitely get them ratings. I'll watch it, just because it's a free night of fights : ]!

While I think Ken has a glass jaw these days and can easily get knocked out here, I think that this could really be a test for Kimbo. Especially if Ken can somehow manage to take this to the ground, where he is much farther ahead of Kimbo. I think it can still be a very good test for Kimbo, even with Kens old age.

^ Yeah, Bas is fully aware of Ken's leg locks. He knows from personal experience.

Ken hasn't shown anything in years. The fight only goes to the ground when Ken gets knocked flat from the breeze of a jab.

^ Good marketing, yes. But I don't think Kimbo will learn anything by knocking Kenny out. It certainly won't prepare him for a young buck like Rogers.

Its kind of disgraceful that EliteXC has the opportunity to show the world MMA but instead chooses to have Carano and Slice fighting losers.

Ken's last fight was at 220#, whereas Kimbo fought James Thompson at 235#, but I don't think this factors into the fight. Ken is going down in the first round from punches.
