wow i didn't even think that this was possible. How long ago was he drafted. Now the Rockets got the 15 and 16 overall pick in the 1999 draft.

Ewing Jr's salary would be guaranteed next week. They get the rights to Weis, which is just like cutting him because Weis will probably never play in the NBA. I'm sure there are some sort of positive consequences they gain from trading him instead of cutting him, perhaps cpaw, or someone with more extensive knowledge of the CBA can help me out.

Draft rights must be renewed every September. Teams must offer a contract to the player by certified mail to his agent. First round picks must be offered contracts in line with the collective bargaining agreement provisions the year the playe was drafted. Second round picks can be offered millions guaranteed over several years or a non-guaranteed camp tryout. It doesn't matter. If the player accepts, then the team must agree to accept him. If he rejects the offer because he has a contract in Europe or he doesn't want to play in the NBA, the team retains his rights for another year.

That means for 10 years the Knicks have held on to Weis' rights by offering him a contract.

If the player is under contract with another team, the NBA team doesn't have to make a contract offer as they automatically maintain his rights.

How is the Krstic situation different then?
We had to make him an offer in order to retain him.

You are talking about restricted free agency which is different than a drafted, but unsigned player.

why couldn't we trade the draft rights to Christian Drejer for him. He's a great hustle player kinda another Balkman, except smarter and better rebounder.

He isn't better or smarter than Balkman. Plus the Nets already have too many players at that position

But other than the other players except Najera aren't defensive minded. And i can tell you without a doubt he not only has a better basketball iq than Balkman but he is smarter and a better player.

Ewing JR shouldn't have even been drafted. He has no NBA level skills. He is a college PF that only has NBA SF size and no NBA ball handling skills. Hell, he was only a roll player on an NCAA team that failed to live up to expectations.

He is not better nor smarter than Balkman who is already a top flight perimeter defender

If Balkman was a top flight perimeter defender he'd get his ass off the bench onto some hardwood now and again. I think Pat Ewing Jr will stick around as a hustle/glue/jack of all trades guy.
