I know, but McCain was doing great with the talking points he had, and there are plenty of women he could have picked that would have allowed him to maintain his experience angle.

While McCain's talking points will change, I'm not so sure Obama's talking points need to change. I see the point that Thrilla is trying to make.

Obama selected a VP that is the opposite of his change message. McCain picked someone with more executive experience than Obama and who has always worked as a change agent.

It all nets out in the wash

How does Biden go against the change message? The change he speaks of has nothing to do with experience or being a Washington outsider. Biden's record is pretty consistent with Obama's talking points.

I just got back. This is the best pick.

I didn't even know she was really in the running. I bought her name up two months ago here and I don't think anyone who she was then.

Man, easily the best looking VP pick in US History.

Word is that McCain and Palin have only met once before today. Really shows how seriously McCain is taking his first important Presidential decision.

    She is the outsider.

She's going to do well in those debates.

I love this. Obama talks about change, and he picked Joe Biden. Obama accuses McCain of being Bush 44 and McCain picks the real candidate for change.

As KO used to say on ESPN, boo-yah.

She's against abortion in extreme cases like of incest and rape which just won't sit well with the Hillary supporters. She's also way conservative. Hillary supporters are anything but that.

With that said it's obviously a high risk/reward pick. I heard her name mentioned back in like June or something and she was called a way long shot. I think this is McCain's way of trying to motivate his base while maybe stealing some women voters from the democrats. I'd be shocked if he actually got a large portion of women voters with this pick.

If this pick helps him anywhere outside of Alaska, it's New Hampshire. Beyond that neither candidate picked a VP with the electoral map in mind.

Someone else told him who to pick, obviously.

I thought McCain was all about giving Americans experienced leadership?

LOL I was watching MSNBC and they had the Democratic strategist talking about how "we can't have this woman who is Governor of a state like Alaska be a hearbeat away from the Presidency!"

    Where's Biden from again?

I've talked to at least four other people in the last week who independently told me the same thing.

Has anyone ever wanted to be President more than the Clintons?

Might I point out that Palin has the most experience of any of the 4 when it comes to be the chief executive of a government.....I love the pick....Barry Obamination wasnt going to win anyway....no one is winning with a platform of "Change We Refuse to Define"....

I really don't see how a VP is going to do so much to swing women anyway. If a women was headlining the ticket, then I could see it. VP is a subordinate role, chosen only by the Presidential candidate. If women were actually voting on who a VP would be, it might very well not be the one that McCain picked.

For the masses, all Obama has preached is change for the sake of change and for the masses, Biden isn't that.

Now that he no longer has to battle Hillary, Obama will have a chance to put out better talking points about what that change is. You and the others in this forum are not the typical voters. Like the past umpteen Presidential Races, I dislike both candidates so all I look is what the parties do to manipulate the sheep.

The marketing machines and tabloid journalism of today makes this a much different time than even the 2004 election. Yes, history says VP's don't matter (see Ferraro and Quayle) but a large part of the packaging of Obama so far has been about style over substance ("he is a great orator, so he'll be a great leader," "I stand for change" and Obama's sexiness).

The GOP just put a MILF into the VP slot and I can't wait to see how they package her.

Guys, the VP mean nothing in this respect. Neither VP does. It's all about the President. The VP is just a tool for them, or an advisor. Like Denny pointed out when he mentioned a McCain/Hillary ticket, the VP can be "frozen out" if the administration chooses to do that. VP's have no real juice, and that's why you hear that women are insulted that Obama would let Hillary ride in the backseat of his Presidency.
