In 84 Reagan/Bush won the the women vote over Mondale/Ferraro so this doesn't guarantee anything.

Most Hillary Supporters have been Hillary backers for along time. They were Clinton fans. This women is new. She could prove to be very good but I already am fairly certain that Biden and Obama are going to leave it up to Hillary to go after her on issues.

Say what you want about Biden but anyone who watched the earlier debates know he's a good debater. During the VP debate, I don't see him going after her that day. I see him going after McCain and forcing her to defend McCain.

Can she do that because in the end people are going to vote for the president, not the vp.

EDIT: lol like you said in the post above.

Right. The women on Hillary's side have probably never even heard of this chick before today, and they certainly don't agree with her on the issues. You guys are looking at this with a lot of wishful thinking, and assuming that her gender is going to have an enormous impact on the eventual outcome.

It is about manipulating the sheep.

Yes, the VP can be frozen out of having any real power once elected, but both parties clearly picked VP's for marketing reasons.

Sound bites and marketing are that matter. Real issues are for the literati.

I would assume an attractive woman vp would be something that would interest men. McCain has the men vote in the bag already. Woman are going to care about the issues.

She helps the conservative base more than anything. In fact she excites the conservative base. McCain had his base already but they weren't passionate about his candidacy.. Now they have a reason to be but in the end a passionate vote and a reluctant voter still count the same.

Reagan had like a approval rating that was pushing 60%. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Mondale really have a chance that year?

I wouldn't know I was born four years later, that's why I'm asking.

I wasn't born either but I know Reagan was one of the most popular presidents we've seen but my point was woman aren't going to vote for her because she's a woman. There is more to it than that.

This is about the sheep, not the people that care about the issues. Not all woman are going to care about the issues nor were all men going to vote for McCain

18 million cracks in the ceiling.

That ceiling might be smashed just yet. Just not by Hillary.

McCain, last I saw was up among men with a big margin and he was already going to win that vote. Obviously not everyone from a respective background is going to vote one way. What I meant was she being attractive really isn't going to make much of a difference. Not enough to swing the election in his favor.

Beef is my example here. I read his posts on the barber shop forum we used to have. He's a conservative. He's excited because of her. That's the type of people she's going to get more than anything.

18-24 year old males that don't care about the issues will vote for the MILF if marketed properly and the GOP needs help in that area.

As far as I know he's always been half & half.

Here we go again.... Neocon/Republican/social conservative/whatever playing the race card & dragging things to the lowest common denominator.

The Rush O'Hannity kool aid drinking types just can't let any election be about ideas... they have to get personal. I just can't wait to see what emotional wedge issues these knuckleheads dredge up to try & obfuscate the bigger picture.

I have to agree completely, Obama dropped the ball on this issue. Hillary could have ended this, and I don't buy that she would have taken down Obama.

Politics is a disgusting game of pandering, and by no means was this Palin chick the best VP available. At least Biden has much more experience than her and is probably more qualified in my eyes, so what the hell is McCain going to say now about Experience? Biden isn't a change candidate, but he's at least seasoned and concurs with Obama's overall views.

Palin is a dirty VP pick to me, but it will be an effective choice (to a degree I guess).

Again, VP's are picked by the candidates, not elected. Mrs. Palin didn't set out to run for VP, she was offered the job out of the blue - appointed. Meanwhile, John McCain and his camp have been doing all the work, and spending millions to get him to this point. The VP's only have to focus on the final few months, while McCain has been busy on this project for years. In my opinion, Hillary and Palin need to get past Obama and McCain to truly say that they have put cracks in the ceiling. A nomination for their party's presidency would do that.

Yeah its kind of hard to understand this VP pick. It does have benefits- try to get pissed off ex-hippie women to vote for McCain, she seems like a real hard core conservative being 100% anti-abortion, long time NRA member, etc. On the other hand when you heard of her you think "who the hell is that?". There were plenty of women republicans out there, why did he take this one who is unknown and relatively inexperienced? There must have been more qualified female candidates out there.

Anyone else think part of this is to steal back more media attention? McCain picks this chick who no ones ever heard of and shes a MILF. Its only been a few hours since we've known and there's already a huge buzz around her because shes attractive (lord knows America loves a MILF). I think this pick will ensure more media attention because sex does sell and she'll get media attention for sure.

    This will be interesting LOL. BTW check out this video from last year on the Craig Fergeson show;

Lol at him calling her a sexy librarian type. Now every dude in America is going nuts over her.

Porky speaks the truth, I am a proud conservative and I love the choice....anyone wanna know why? Because she is the United States....she came from modest beginings, born to professional educators, with all the monetary restrictions that comes with, she played a high school sport, she put her self through college by earning a scholarship, she worked in her field of study, she married her high school sweetheart, she built a nice family, she starter her political career on a town council, later becoming the mayor, and then the governer of her state, shes still married to that man, her son is an infantryman....this is all american dream type stuff....shes done it for herself....her approval rating in Alaska is 80%.....she doesnt just talk the talk, shes walked the walk....she is a real american idol....and when shes sworn in, I will be as proud as ever to be an american....
