Palmer gets no defensive help, their OL struggled and had injuries, and "he came back to earth" which is to say, he had an average season. It happens to all QBs, except maybe the best of the best (HOF type players, like Peyton Manning) Brees... well, he sucked initially this year. Then he played out a very good 12 games of the season. He still finished with a pretty good year, despite not having anything, really, of a rushing atack. Romo is in a very good situation. There is no denying that. But when I watch him play, I see great accuracy, awareness, and an ability to make plays happen... that is stuff that doesn't get inflated by weaponry. Stats can, sure. But the accuracy on his passes, the pocket awareness, the little shoulder fakes he gives that buys him more time, and the ability to hang on for an extra second to get something down field.... that's stuff that cannot be inflated by having an Owens, Witten, or a Barber. You either have it and can see it; or you don't. Its ultimately why I am not worried about him. He may scare the crap out of me from time to time watching him play.... but even Troy did that too. I simply worry too much. The thing is... he doesn't have to be perfect next year. And even if he were to struggle (which, he won't), the team has been constructed well enough we can get by with a bus driver type QB. Might not contend for a Super Bowl, but we'd be in the thick of things in the playoff race. And Romo's is simply way better than that.
Can people please atleast put the superbowl champions in the playoffs. Come on i mean im not a homer or anything but the Giants are better than Philly and Tampa and even NO. I don't care if you put the Cowlgirls there ahead of us, but we still are the Superbowl champions and all we've done was get better. Thank you for all of those that actually see my point.
Look we have replaced him with another highly touted DE which only was moved because of our depth. Also our corners and safeties we drafted only make us better. Plus we have more depth than ever and our DE depth is still high for anyone that has seen Tollefson and Wynn play they aren't half bad. We also have Jay Alford a pass Rushing DT from the inside. Come on people we did lose Osi and im not saying thats not a big loss but we still have depth.
They have a silent confidence, i believe that won't be our biggest problem; our DB's will be our biggest problem. Will still have Troy there however
Russell is getting better. I don't expect him to light it up this year though. All indications are that they will give him extremely safe plays to run in an effort to protect the ball. He's going to throw picks, I can already see this. They are going to make sure that he has plenty of short range options. Yes, I know what you're thinking, he has all this arm and they should be using it. Kiffin is really taking a conservative approach to bringing him along, and putting all the pressure on the running game. Oakland is going to play slow ball control on offense, and bring more blitzes on defense this year. Their confident enough in their two CB's. You're going to see all their running backs play every week, and that's about as crazy as its really going to get.
I think you miss the point. Both of your starting defensive ends from last year's title run are gone. Strahan retired. Umeniyora is gone for the year due to a nasty injury. The DEs are the key to Spagnuolo's defensive scheme. Tuck's a nice player, but he'll have a tough time repeating last year's production without Osi or Strahan to draw attention away from him. Just what is your depth at this position? Kiwanuka's a linebacker that they just moved to DE out of sheer necessity. Reynaldo Wynn sucks. I've heard of Tollefson in my life. Its not like the rest of the team is overly impressive either. Jeremy Shockey is no longer there. Say what you want about the playoff run New York had without him, but Shockey is a big loss. Eli's been streaky his whole career, including the 2007 regular season, and the entire 2007 postseason was him on a hot streak. I'm far from convinced that he's risen up to the elite as far as QBs go. The Giants flat out do not compare to the Eagles, Saints, or Bucs given their current status. Plus, its not unheard of for the Super Bowl champion to miss the playoffs the following year either, at least in recent history. 2002 Patriots, 2003 Buccaneers, 2006 Steelers anyone?
Kiwi was a DE in college, many thought he'd be a DE in the NFL too.... But because the Giants had Osi, Strahan, and even Tuck.... they moved Osi to OLB to get him on the field. And his strength is rushing the passer anyway. The year previous to Kiwi declaring for the draft... many felt he would have been a top 5 pick. Def. top 10. And he returned for his senior year instead, had somewhat of a down year, and he wasn't the flavor of the month come draft time. But he is a big time talent/prospect... and it made me sick when the Giants got him. But he def. has experience at DE and wasn't really an OLB.... he was more of a DE learning to play OLB.
