All of these convention speeches are scripted and given to the press before the night begins. They don't read word-for-word, but 95% sticks to the script.

Also, I have a lot of confidence in Palin's speaking skills and ability to think on her feet. So far, I haven't seen her stumble once. She is very intelligent and polished and engaged in what she is saying.

That was actually a graphic on MSNBC. Morons.

I couldn't watch MSNBC yesterday. While all the other networks were showing Fred Thompson's speech, which was extremely good, MSNBC had Keith Doberman on instead spewing a bunch of hateful crap.

  5. Giuliani was mad hilarious.

Giuliani talked for 5 minutes about how Obama has no executive experience, apparently forgetting that McCain has none either. Somebody should tell him that he completely fucked up the primary, and he's not the nominee.

Don't think she nailed it as much as some of you guys said. Nailed the part about making people like her as a person/mother as well as being an attack dog. Didn't see much in the way of policy, especially not the economy. I guess she did nail the part about letting us know about her political past but it just flat out isn't very impressive.

Shes a good speaker, comfortable up there, energetic, and overall genuine. Dunno if she has any ammo regarding policy issues. Biden-Palin debate should be interesting.

Anyone else irked by the fact that everyones freaking out about not talking about Palin's family yet no one gave a shit when Michelle Obama was being labeled an America-hating-commie?

Also I fucking HATE the word "blogosphere". Next thread should be "Buzz words that make you want to shoot yourself in the face with a 12 gauge shotgun when you hear them".

I saw Giuliani making the rounds on Tuesday, so I wasn't surprised with his funny speech.

I am also quite excited about the Biden-Palin debate, more than the Barry/Mac one now.

    McCain's speech tonight.

Strategically, he could take a page from the Reagan playbook and tell the people "they talk about change, I am the real change." History repeats itself, both in how "change" is one party's appeal, and that move by Reagan destroyed Jimmy Carter's chances of re-election.

This time around, McCain can outright steal Obama's only message using the same tactic. Palin's performance last night makes it a believable argument at this point. She is "none of the above" that would win a lot of polls if that option were given. She is change, both for the party and for Washington since she's an outsider. It would also undercut the "McBush" PR stunt the Democrats are trying to pull against him.

The technically correct approach for his speech tonight is to go through a laundry list of issues and solutions he proposes, much as Obama did. The problem with that is, you get the "fact checkers" in the media telling everyone how massive Obama's spending programs are or how big a debt McCain would run up. And the candidates as presidents rarely have the actual power to get much of their agendas passed.

If he made a "bet" on Palin, now is the time to double down on that bet. The strategy should be to maximize the expected bounce every candidate gets coming out of their conventions.

What you won't see is him attacking Obama too much - that was left to the rest of the speakers at the convention. His need is to seal the deal with as many people as he can while he's got the biggest megaphone in the world.

On a side note, Larry King Live was dedicated to Republican response to the Democrats' convention last week, this week it's the reverse. It was interesting to see what the war room's rapid response was to Palin's speech. They clearly are having trouble figuring out what to do. Half of them took the approach of deflecting from her performance - "the election is still about the men at the top!" while the other half continued the talking points from before the speech.

Finally, her speech was seen by 30M people. Obama's speech at the football stadium was seen by 39M.

Michelle Obama made some pretty retarded comments and invited everyone to attack her. Sarah Palins kids are a very different situation.

I loved the speech, I was slightly skeptical about weather or not she was a good pick for VP but that speech took care of most of the concerns I had. I love how she went after Obama and did it in a funny way. Finally Republicans have someone who can actually speak.

Man how did Howard Dean get into the RNC. He's being interviewed on MSNBC by Brokaw right now.

He doesn't know what to say anymore. He keeps rambling bullshit. (Then again what else is new?)

You guys watching the McCain speech?

There's a f***ing idiot (traitor) on top of the stands, saying crap and show some sign which I couldn't see the whole thing but it said something about McCain and the war. He should get couple of years in jail IMO for doing such a low thing.
