I just hope that Ferry sees sense and doesn't get screwed by the fact that he managed to sign Gibson on the cheap. Even if Delonte is used in a sign-and-trade that would be OK, or they could use him as bait for a team to accept big contracts at a later point this year; but only signing him to a qualifying offer would be dangerous and reduce his trade value, as he could leave whichever team he is on at that point, with them having no option to match any offer.
The Nuggets were pretty close to trading for Delonte this past season until they heard from his agent how much he would be looking for this summer.
They are already overpaying Gibson, I dont think they wanna overpay Delonte who is even less of a PG.
I can't agree with you there, how is Gibson overpaid at 5 years, ~$20.7m? That equates to around $4m per year for one of the League's best shooter, a guy with gobs of potential and, crucially, a guy who LeBron adores. I was braced for Ferry to sign Boobie for anything up to 6 or 7 million per year, as Boobie could have held out for more due to his relationship with LeBron. For Gibson, especially how good he could be in 3 or 4 years, $4m per year is a very astute deal.
