Yes, Boone's ultimate role should probably be as one of the first bigs off the bench, and to be matched up against less athletic, and not as humongous bigs. He may not even start on the first day of the season. Ghoti could be right and that Lopez already has the inside track. I guess I just don't view upgrading him as a major priority, when there are other issues with the team right now. This is an important year, since for the first time he will have been able to work during the off-season and will be healthy during training camp. I just think that he will continue to improve somewhat. If his development stagnates, though, I'll be all for punting him.
Evans is a significantly better rebounder than Boone and that is Boone's most significant contribution to the Nets.
two, three years ago that was clearly true. Last year, Evans was not nearly as productive on the boards as he was when he played with Denver or Seattle. Statistically, he was slightly better than Boone last year, but it isn't unreasonable to project that Boone will improve by 10-20% and Evans will decline by 10-20%. Boone had very specific, very obvious things to work on during the off-season. Whether he did so will go a long way to determining his value.
Evans had a total rebound percent of 19.3 and Boone's was 16.6. That is a large statistical difference, not slightly better. Evans numbers are likely to go down this year because of the addition of Brand, but not because of age.
but his numbers didn't go down when he was playing with camby, nene, and kmart . . . if anything, you'd expect his numbers to increase when he came to Philadelphia.
Well, Evans never had to play with all of them healthy. I didn't expect his % numbers to increase in Philly because I figured Cheeks would over play him.
Since Jason Smith is injured, I thing the Sixers have one of the weakest benches in the league. The Nets' bench is much better. Lou Williams is a nice sixth man, though.
Here is who I think should and will eventually be starting in the middle of the season: Harris Carter Simmons Yi Lopez and Dooling, Boone, CDR, and Najera will round out the 9 man rotation that Frank uses
I would go this route to start Harris Carter Simmons Yi Lopez. I would eventually want to use a lineup of... Hariis Carter Yi SWat Lopez
at the start of the season PG: Harris SG: Carter SF: Simmons PF: Yi C : Boone by the end its goin to be PG: Harris SG: Carter SF: Simmons PF: Yi C : Lopez with Dooling, CDR, Najera, Anderson, Boone as our 2nd unit.
