The masses declared Marcus Camby the best defender in the league The masses declared Doc Rivers a great coach The masses declared the Patriots unbeatable in the superbowl I can go on and on and prove the worthlessness of the masses you are hiding behind. I made a snide a comment because that was all your point deserved. No burden has shifted to me
Other than Singletary, the time in which LT dominated was not filled with great linebackers. Karl Mecklenburg wasn't an all time great LB. Derrick Thomas didn't enter the league until LT was 30. LT was a physical freak and was ahead of his time
You proved nothing. I was simply pointing out the misplaced arrogance of your response. Especially considering that you've offered no substance (since that is what you are so concerned about) to support your contention.
I'm not a football fan, so I am unable to make an argument for or against Taylor. The only contention I've made is that nearly everyone who IS a fan would argue that LT is the best linebacker ever, which is something that is provable. What I've also apparently proved is that you can't make an argument against LT, other than holding the talent level of contemporary linebackers against him. The problem with that argument, of course, is that it would be no different than saying that Babe Ruth was overrated because there weren't any other premier home run hitters at the time.
For starters, I disagree with your contention. I know a hell of a lot of NFL fans and of the people I know, there is no consensus about LT being the greatest. As I stated, I ridicule your contention being supported by internet searches. There is absolutely no reason to make an argument against LT other than laughing at ghoti's hyperbole. You are simply trying to goad me into stating something for your own amusement. There hasn't even been a case made for LT being better than Butkus (who at one point was considered not as good as Nitschke by the masses). My comment about LT's contemporaries is because ROTR posted his All Pro and Pro Bowl team accomplishments in comparison to Ray Lewis.
And I ridicule your tendency to start threads soliciting opinions to subjective questions, and then telling everyone who doesn't share your views that they are wrong. No, "ridicule" is not the correct word. I am saddened by it.
I guarantee you that both cpaw and I knew exactly what this thread would look like before there was one response in it.
LT is the most athletic LB of all time, his speed and power are unmatched IMO. There is not a better pass rushing LB ever. but calling out the best LB of all time is near impossible because of the varied roles LB's fill. Take Mike Singletary, he wasn't a huge pass rusher, but he could shut down the run because he had a knack for being in the right spot all of the time. He was a great leader on the defensive side and was the soul of the Bears great defense in the 80's. He's definitely one of the all time greats IMO. Junior Seau is Mike Singletary part II IMO. both were great middle line backers. Ray Lewis and Dick Butkus all deserve to be in the conversation too as they were dominant at the position during their time. Who's the best of that group... beats the hell outta me.
