New Celtics show up

After a largely quiet summer at HealthPoint as Celtics players rest up from the title run, things have gotten a bit busier of late. Rajon Rondo, Tony Allen and Glen Davis have been around for a few days here and there, while yesterday rookies J.R. Giddens, Bill Walker and recent signee Patrick O’Bryant were all practicing on the court.

While Giddens returned to the practice facility this week for the first time since he was introduced to the media the week after the draft - instead, choosing to go back to Dallas and New Mexico to work out during the summer amid an unusually long contract negotiation for a first-round pick - Walker has been on the parquet since shortly after knee surgery in early July.

Walker, whom Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge deemed a candidate for European League duty at the time of the draft - “At the beginning, we were thinking that maybe we might send him overseas for a year, but the more we saw him working, the more we saw him here, it was evident that we wanted to keep him here.” - said his presence of Waltham may have helped the Celtics to make him a more immediate part of their plans.

Very good news that we're keeping both of them.

I'd like to see Billy get a fair chance to compete in camp. He has had some rough luck the past few years.

 

He could even take Tony Allen's spot in the rotation if he shows that he's worth it.

 

Doubtful. I think Tony will be one of our top bench guys this year. Bill Walker will still see a fair amount of action because there will probably be a good amount of garbage time for the defending champs.

I doubt that. I think if anything, Walker could beat out J.R. Giddens for floor time, and/or run Miles right out of the gym.

But all in all, I think that Doc will give everybody a fair chance at some point during the season. Right off the bat, I think Giddens will be ahead of Walker on the depth chart because of his length and defensive activity.

 

From the start, maybe, but a fair bit of us fans are expecting Bill to force himself into the rotation sooner or later. Who knows, both Giddens and Walker could be seeing notable playing time if Miles doesn't work out as planned.

 

Come on, the only plan for Miles is for Ainge using him to screw with the Blazers.

 

What did Portland do to Ainge? He traded them Brandon Roy for Shitfuck McTelfair and Ihasbooboo McRatliff, he wasn't forced. Its his own fault.
