There are few teams in the NBA who've been able to rebuild as quickly as the Spurs, and the management is basically there to do it again. It's going to be interesting to watch. I'd bet $.10 that they get the #1 pick in the next draft or two
The Spurs really benefited from the salary cap the NBA imposed. They got a head start over every franchise with Duncan being a rookie and having David Robinson on the team already. In addition Sean Elliot had a favorable fixed contract at $5.3M. At the other end of the spectrum in the NBA you had teams exploiting loopholes in the current labor deal to offer players ridiculous salaries and balloon payments. They have excelled at maximizing late draft choices and being pioneers at tapping into International players. I'm not sure if they'll luck out with ping pong balls again, but they are in position to be a player in the 2010 free agent class.
