Fernandez To Lazio In January?

The transfer of Augusto Fernandez from River Plate to Lazio did not go through last month because of passport issues, but perhaps a move in January will be possible.

Argentinian attacking midfielder Augusto Fernandez was due to make a transfer from River Plate in the summer, but problems with the player's passport halted the move, which has now been cancelled after the transfer window closed on Monday.

The club and player were on the same wavelength and the move seemed certain, yet the problems kept the player in Argentina and his career at River has not yet come to a conclusion.

Speaking to Olè, Fernandez said, “I’m staying here calmly, and I live day by day. There was much talk about the market but until the signatures are in place one cannot talk about the future.”

The last minute problems have left the player to represent River Plate for a while longer, and the right-footed 22-year-old is content with this scenario.

“I remain at the disposal of the coach, and I am happy to stay at River. The fact that my transfer didn’t go through is not a problem, God knows when the right time for me to leave will be,” said the midfielder.

Fernandez had been reported as saying that he only wanted to move from River Plate if his destination would be Lazio. If Biancocelesti President Claudio Lotito gets his way, a move for the player in the January transfer window could be completed.
