I must admit I don't totally understand the way the US health care system works. I have medical insurance from my employer in Canada but it covers "above and beyond" type stuff, like extra costs for prescription medication, semi-private hospital rooms, long term disability and additional dental/vision care, etc.. I've never experienced what it must be like to have to debate whether or not to go to a hospital for an illness or injury based on expense because Canada has a single-payer HC system run by provincial governments. So I can't really imagine what it is like for amateur and professional fighters who are constantly dealing with injury (no fighter ever fights 100% healthy). Randy is talking to Dana and the UFC about getting these guys coverage. It seems to me that it would be a given that they'd be looking after their athletes. Take Anthony Johnson, for example. Through no fault of his own he got poked in the eye repeatedly in his last fight and eventually was taken to hospital and treated for an eye injury. He lost his fight as a result of the eye poke--and a possible win bonus, not to mention a possible additional bonus on top of that if he had finished Burns in a special fashion--and he has to pick up his own medical tab. Doesn't seem fair. I don't know for sure, but you'd assume guys in the NFL, who Dana routinely compares to the UFC, have everything taken care of. There is a lot more money to go around in the NFL, for sure, but to be the biggest sport in the world, the UFC has to look after its guys. Source: MMAJunkie.com Anthony Johnson
