I have been watching the NBA since the 1995-1996 season and I dont think I have ever seen players and fans react to a player being traded as they did with Marcus Camby. Obviously talent wise Camby is worth far more than a 2nd round pick swap.I think we can all agree on that. While I see what managment was doing from a financial standpoint, I still believe they could have gotten creative and found other ways to clear up cap space and still keep Camby or trade him for more equal value. I think this trade has done more to hurt team moral than any other I have seen in my days of watching and studying the NBA. This kind of trade is why the NBA isnt as fun as it was anymore, the trades are just for financial reasons when they should be for talent reasons. I started seeing the writing on the wall when I saw the Gasol trade actually happen.
Actually, there are a lot of Nuggets fans that are just fine with the trade There is zero reason for it to hurt team moral
I call BS on that one, While Camby was overated he did mean something to the makeup of this team. Iverson and Melo obviously respected him alot and have spoken out in the media about it. It just like when a player said that Sam Cassell was better than Marko Jaric and everybody called BS because Marko was younger and came off a decent season. Cassell ended up taking the Clips to the playoff and Marko went nowhere fast with the Wolves. In the end I trust what actual players are saying than what we think is logical as fans.
that's why Mello said it bothered him? and I haven't come across any Nuggets fans being content with getting a 2nd rounder for him. I'd love to see a link to a site where there are Nuggets fans glad to see him go. I know it's possible 1-2 outta 50 may feel that way, but the general consensus is that they lost an important part to the team.
The players lost someone that had been a teammate for a number of years (Melo and Nene that is) so of course they aren't going to be happy about seeing him go. That is different than morale in the locker room. These players have all dealt with teammates getting traded away before. I know of no one that thought Marko was better than Sam I am when that trade was made.
The general consensus of idiots, like the media. Not of people that watch every Nuggets game. The Nuggets didn't get just a 2nd rounder for him. They got a TE that is good for 1 year that is more valuable in trades than Marcus was. I'd like to see the Nuggets hold it until next summer and use it to help facilitate the start of the post-AI era.
Add Nene to the list of people that are pissed that Camby is gone http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/54399/20080915/nene_was_angry_about_camby_trade/
You're bias is showing through I say Bias because I have yet to see anyone on here agree with your assessment that Camby is a horrible defender.
As a main defender I think he is right about Camby, but as a help defender Camby knows his role well, so technically he does play defence.
since I try to hear both sides of the story here is a an article saying Camby doesnt play D http://lahoopsblog.wordpress.com/2008/07/16/clippers-get-cambyfigures/
I'm gonna come in here and state my opinion because I'm bored: I believe the Nuggets could have at least tricked another team into giving up more for Camby. More than a 2nd round pick, at least. I understand the TE, and that's cool and all, but they couldn't get a 1st rounder? I mean, say what you want about Camby, there are still gonna be people out there who see a lot of value in him...more value than a 2nd rounder and a TE. Couldn't they trick some mediocre-to-dumb GM into giving them 2 1st rounders and a youngin?
That article is already here in the Nuggets forum. Of course Nene isn't happy about have a close friend traded away, but that won't impact his mood on the court. As the article talks about, Camby getting traded takes opens up tons of playing time for Nene. The Nuggets FO are big believers in Nene (see the contract) and have been trying to trade Camby for a couple of summers.
The teams that wanted Camby wanted to send back matching large contracts like ZBo. Memphis had zero interest in Camby.
