The other important thing to note is that Jozy has to realize that he might not get too many opportunities this season with Franco, Llorente, Nihat, and Rossi as the established forwards at Villarreal. Performances like that one will force Pelligrini to play Altidore.

I'm really surprised he wasn't on the roster. I think he was dropped because of the home-grown player restrictions. Too bad because he's the type who can cause some serious issues in the second half because of his size, strength and speed.
Well, he's 18 and he's been in the American development system. To be honest, his skill and vision are all natural talent with little added to it from coaching. Altidore is another in a long line of physically superior US Soccer players, but he's got the skills to go with it and those are only going to further develop in Spain.
To an extent, yes. Even if he doesn't though, practicing with those coaches against those defenders will be good for him. I like MLS as a place to find and start developing young American talent, but I think many of the younger players need to move on fairly quick to a place that focuses more on skills. For older US players, like a Landon Donovan, its not that bad because I think MLS will keep him in better shape physically than most other leagues and training systems. A guy like Altidore will benefit from just practicing in Spain as his conditioning habits are already instilled in him from his time in American development systems.
